Group C or F103?

Recommended Posts

Hi Gang:

I hope everyone is doing well.

I swapped for a wonderfully completed Jaguar XJR-12 body at my

local hobby store. I gave up a spare Lola T93 Indy body in trade.

Being I don't have the Tamiya Group C chassis, but tons of F103 and F104

spares, is it possible to marry the two with body mount mods or am I

asking for trouble?

Many thanks for the help. Best to all, Guy

You have to check the wheel base,I forget how long the Jag is but its longer than a F103. Other than that you might want to use bigger wheels.F103 wheels and tires can look small under a "C" car body

Thank you Baka, I suspected such a situation.

Group C chassis are so hard to come buy, but the spoked wheels seem to be available.

Best as usual, Guy

You cant use the Group C wheels without the adapters for the rear, you can use the Lola wheels as they dont need the extra hub. BUt you might be able to get the hubs easy enough.

You can also get some hubs from Germany that let you use pro ten wheels.

There is a link is this page somewhere

The wheelbase is easily solved by making or ordering a chassis plate for the right wheelbase. Body mounts are a bigger problem I think, as the F103/4 use relatively narrow bodies, whilst the Group C bodies are as wide as the wheels go. However, if you order a custom plate, even this can be solved by adding some wider parts to the new plate with holes to mount (body) posts <_<

I also read once that the Group C cars are closer to the F102 than the F103 in their structure, but I'm not 100% sure

Group C use the F101/102 front suspension and F102 t-bar/rear pod, with a different chassis with adjustable wheelbase.

You guys are the best! Thank you for your input.

Will rip through my F102 spares and see what I come

up with.

Best regards, Guy

No, that's not what I meant. The F103 and F102 chassis are exactly the same wheelbase (26 cm) and width (20 cm). The F103L has a wheelbase of 27 cm, I believe.

The Group C cars used a FRP/ABS spaceframe/tub instead of the single chassis plate of the F102. The tub has three sets of holes that allows two additional wheelbases (27 and 28 cm). Without the Group C specific chassis parts you won't be able to realize those two wheelbases using the F102 front and rear end and F102 chassis.

You should measure the wheelbase of the body. If it's 28 cm you're out of luck, unless you can find the group C chassis parts.
