I'm just doing the paint scheme on my Rough Rider, that is probably the most difficult car I have ever painted. It looks simple but getting all the tight radiuses masked off correctly is very difficult.

There's probably a simple way to do it, but I have'nt found it.

I have not built many cars, but compared to todays M04l and Wild Willy, I found the 959 rather tricky... loads and loads of parts, the oil filled dampers took about 10 hours just to get the air bubbles out! and the paintjob is so hard... as are the decals. Loved every minute of it though!

Clod/Bullhead

There's a bit in the instructions saying 'don't forget this bit' - I did! TWICE

Big disassembly job.

Also had it so the wheels turned the wrong way, so instead of turning left or right, it just went diagonally[:D]

4x4 is notoriously going to be more work B) Nothing worse than having to disassemble and reassemble...

I have to add that Kyosho's instructions were very poor, even taking the battery holder off was a three day event :)

I did the same thing, It took me several hours before I realized what was going on, and why I kept banging into things rtather than turning, it was my firse experience with 4ws.

The clod was not so much difficult to assemble, as tedious, just when you get the gearbox assembly completed, you have to do it a second time!

The electrics on the Wild Dagger were a pain in the rear end. In terms of modern cars that was probably the toughest part (haven't tried Clod Buster etc). Apparently the TA04 is a bit fiddly too.

But to be honest, Tamiya kits are usually so good and the instructions so accurate that there shouldn't be too many problems.

Painting, Masking and applying the decals to my Mazda 787B took me a week to do...This was harder than building any of my cars....My mugen Decals were probably my second hardest task, about 5 hours total....But I actually loved every minute of it[:P][:P]

Hardest body to paint for me was my Alpine A110. The way the stickers are applied takes a lot of skill. The hard bodies take a lot of patience. It's hard to leave them alone after you paint them.

Most Tedious chassis, Juggernaut 1. Since the bevel shafts would wear out every foruth run it go to the point where I could dissasemble the axles blind folded.

I have to say the Clod is difficult for the reasons stated previously. The worst car I have ever had to build was the Tenth Technology Predator. Amongst other things you have to epoxy resin the prop shaft yourself and then you have to set the mesh in the gearbox with incredibly easy to damage shims. Half the time the gearbox strips the teeth of the gears even when the gearbox is built correctly! Later cars were better but by then most people had bought a Losi. Also the instruction manual was made using a camera and cocktail sticks to mouunt the parts to create some kind of quasi exploded view! Not a single illustration!!

Generally tamiyas are super easy to assemble and it can be a culture shock to build anything else!

I literally bruised the palms of my hands trying to drive in the screws on a mad bull. This was supposed to be a beginners kit, but there is no way a child could drive in the tapping screws. Mostly I build kits with proper threaded fasteners. Even the most complex build up is more enjoyable than fighting with super tight tapping screws.

Try one of the tanks. The old Leopard and Gepard had to have the tracks made up.Theres a total of 1566 in both tracks! Thats before youve even put all the fiddley bits on the shell

I had problems with the Midnight Pumpkin Decals (flames on the front left and right side). I had 2 bodies and put on the decals 3 times (one body was resored) but I still had problems.[:(!]

With Toyota Monster Racer, Hot Shot 1 & 2, Monster Beetle and Golf IV I had no problems.

I belive my Hot Shot was the hardest kit to assemble out of my Tamiya Kits.

ill have to say the toughest to build so far for me was the juggernaut 2.my finger tips got raw from all the threaded ends that you put together...........plus i think all of the kits i build the painting and the decals are always tough i seem to mess either one decal up or mess up in areas with the paint[^]

For me the Clod was that bad to put together but, it was difficult to get the steering right. Then I noticed I mixed the tie rods with the rods from the steering servo. It only took an hour but it now goes where I want it.

I have to agree, the Clod was probably one of the most frustrating & tedious. Once built I sold it within 2 weeks.

F201 was probably the most enjoyable, the MR-S (TA-04SS) second best.

Although I'm also enjoying the King Hauler I have at present. I have only made one mistake so far, missing the orientation of the two rear diffs so that they ran in opposite directions! Changing was a real pain as I'd used threadlock & ended up rounding the head on one of the screws (I'm sure they are softer than they used to be??)

I'm really looking forward to getting the Terra Conqueror. For some strange reason I prefer to build kits which don't need you to install the servo's within the first few steps (which most Tamiya do it seems these days!)

Lancia Ralley 037 had the hardest decals by far of any kit.

My Pershing Tank was a pain in the ***, with all the wires that needed to be routed for the turret to spin right.

I've built a number of RC hobby level cars/trucks over the years. Yesterday afternoon and this morning, I worked on my TXT-1 that arrived. It may not be technically tough to assembly, but it sure has a lot of parts. It was more time consuming that I would have thought. I went with the 4 wheel steering, so that took a little time to setup as well.

This afternoon it was up and running. Not a fast truck, but that's not what I wanted. I was looking for something very scale and excellent rock crawling ability. Think I found the ideal truck. I'm surprised Tamiya recommends not glueing the tires. The rims spin inside the tires anytime a lot of torque is applied. Before the second run, I glued the tires.

One upside to this truck is there are practically no small fiddly pieces. One thing I didn't like is that the assemblies used hardware from multiple bags. It would have been quicker to assemble if all the needed parts for a step were in the same bag. Instead, use a screw from bag A, a washer from bag D... Argh!

For the most part Tamiyas are dead easy to build, anything with a lot of parts is going to take a little while longer, but certainly not difficult.

The toughest kit I ever had the pleasure to build would be the original Schumacher C.A.T.

If you made it through that without cutting yourself at least twice you just weren't trying !! For anyone who might of been around long enough to remember I'll just say- Driveshafts !!

I am with you on that one. Another killer were the screw heads, I never did find a screwdriver that fitted exactly. I always had stab wounds in my hands when I raced CATs. They still haven't changed now by the way. I built a Fireblade 2000 to race and stabbed myself mercilessly. DOH[:o)]
