Well I have been waiting for one of these for a very long time now and finally got round to getting one

Although this is my first ever Tamiya model build I thought that Id go for something a bit challenging, also my interest in trucks helped my decision

I ordered it form rcmart.com for £220 and it came in 5 days from hong kong!!! <_<

Here it is:

I then went out on ebay looked for a transmitter and found this (Futaba 4WD) which i bought for £100

Then construction started

At the moment a MFC is too expensive so i will probably add it later even though it will be harder to fit

There is only one thing left to do...

...get some finished pictures up

I havent taken any yet because of my problem with the pinion gear, the truck has been stripped down and is waiting for its new pinion gear (Link Here)

Ive ordered one the other day and should be arriving soon

Also ordered some Tamiya #87070 Polishing Compound for the cab. Does anyone know if this is any good???

Nice work.

I would suggest you get a ball bearing set as well if you plan to run it. I notice the rear axle uses brass bushings so far.

Thanks for the build pics! I have never seen one inside the box before and it looks like a neat kit to assemble.

Did the cab come molded in that color? The transmission looks very complex to put together. I want to get me a truck someday and the Scania would be one of those to choose from.

Just thought you should know that from looking at the pictures the motor pinion is fitted on the wrong way round. The fat end should be the part in contact with the spur gear. This is probably what caused the pinion to self destruct and your problems with getting the grub screw to tighten on the shaft. Other than that a very nice build.

Hope this helps

Im thinking of getting some soon

That is a very good start and that seems a very good price too.

Thanks Mate

It took a lot of shopping around to find it at that price

Your welcome mate

the cab doesn't come pre-painted so you have to spray it yourself

Don't worry about the model being complex. Just follow the manual slowly and you should be ok. Tamiya manulas are very easy to follow

I just realised after I took the gearbox out that the pinion gear was the wrong way around and i too think that is what caused the problem

Thanks for the help anyway

Looks great. Love that colour, it really suits the scania. Paint finish looks good too. Really clean looking. Well done.

Any plans for a Trailer ?

Thanks mate, I think its the polish that done it

Well about a trailer...

I'm still double minded about what to get next, a MFC or a 40 Foot Container Trailer

What would you recommend???

Posted
Maybe

Works fine for me and Ricky850r

Its all good now, no problems, apparently a problem at my end.

The truck looks sweet! I've never built one but this makes me want to! Wow.

They're expensive though, especially when you add all the extra bits... perhaps I need to set up a savings fund.

Thanks for sharing... <_<

40 foot container trailer - Or better yet - a polished tanker!..

I would go for the 40 ft trailer. Mfu's add alot of realism to these models but you can't beat the fun of driving with a trailer on the back. Flerbizky could be on to something. These do look good with a tanker trailer

Your swinging me towards the trailer option as i have been thinking about the fun i could have with a trailer on the back

They're great to drive with a trailer, I've got a stretched bruder lowloader on mine just now, trailer itself is about a metre long. Takes a bit of practice to manouver it. lol. You'd be amazed by how much weight these little things can haul too.

LOL!!! I know what you mean about the size of the trailers, they are massive. I agree, I think the trailer is the best option

when i have been recently looking at some mfc-01 videos on youtube, i dont know if it is just me because i think they kind of make the truck seem unrealistic. The main thing is that the sound is not the best and it seems a bit delayed if you know what i mean. What i will probably do later on when i save up some money is buy as servonaut unit as they sound sweet and imo add more realism than the mfc-01

I have also recently seen the new oil shocks (#56515)

does anyone know if they are any good???

do oil shocks make the suspension stiffer than the standard metal friction dampers???

only asking because i like the fact the suspension is soft with the standard suspension which adds to the realism

Just a little update...

Bought some ball bearings, Carson Poison Truckpuller Motor, Telescopic antenna and more ceramic grease

DSC02233.jpg

DSC02230.jpg

to start with i had to strip the whole truck down and take apart the gearbox and differential to access the bushings to replace them with ball bearings

lol, looks like just as much work to do the bearings as the whole truck!

Very cool thread, thanks for taking the time to take the photos, I know it takes ages! I've not seen one of these built up before and I'm very tempted as a winter project.

I realise this is your first Tamiya but what are your overall impressions of the quality - build and end result? Also, how are the kit screws? Are they quite soft (normal Tamiya ones are)?

Very cool and I'm keen to hear your impressions of the new motor too...

Thanks

the build is EPIC - once you have built it you feel a sense of achievement

One thing i have noticed about Tamiya is that their manuals are very simple to follow. My bro got a TT-01 at the same time. After building my truck, it made the TT-01 instructions seem too easy!!!

I definately agree with you when you say that the screws are soft. Im now scared that ill over-tighten them!!!

About the motor...

...I have definately noticed that the speed is more realistic, but havent noticed much about torque

ive tried putting weight on the back and have noticed a slight improvement but thats about it
