Mark, you wouldn't by any chance be thinking about sticking a Mamba Max in this "conversion" project would you? :)

Then it would be a Mamba Manx!

HAHAHAHA. That predictable hey?

The SRB one will get a Mamba. :) MambaManx might make a good number plate for it.

I think a Mamba is a touch big for the 1:25 scale though. Maybe fit a Losi Xcelerin from a Micro-T into it with 2S2P Micro-T Li-Po packs.

Mamba Manx - priceless! :)

Actually an SRB-based SR with paddle tires and a Mamba Max would be a hoot on the sand. Can't wait for some action pix.

I know you've seen this but I'll post it anyway-

IMHO I'm not to keen on it. I much prefer the Holiday Buggy, but thats just me! Though its only £100.......

Cmon what's not to like :-)

Wonder whether this shell would drop straight onto the HB2010 chassis or whether they use different front or rear posts? Anybody got any inside info? Really wouldn't mind just getting a body set - don't really need or want to buy another DT02, but I kinda like the idea of an alternate body shell and I do like the looks of this. (Ok, it's not as good as the original, I'll give you that, but it's better than not having an SR!)

The Holiday buggy used body clip on top of a riser tower, which would be about level with the SR roll bar

In the pic below, it looks like there's a rear body post (or summat) at the same height as the rear shock tower

The front one looks to be in about the same place though

Tamiya could have done worse on this buggy. Not my first choice of chassis, although I do remember reading that this is a very popular chassis for entry level racing in Japan.

I will be aiming to get one :D

Thanks Twinset, you are absolutely right and I should have clued in that the HB roof line is much higher. I bet the front is the same and there is a much lower add on for the rear. Might even be the Sand Viper one? Would make sense I guess.

Next question is whether you can get a "complete" body set, or whether you end up needing several parts bags for the glass, frame, lights, etc.? Seems like at some point you're almost better off buying the whole kit and ebaying the bits and bobs or using them for spares (tires, chassis tub since the rear section and hardware takes a beating on this taildragger, etc.)

Looking at the picture the SR has it's own rear body mount that attaches to where the wing would mount on the lexan bodied DT02, behind the rear tower. The lexan bodied DT02s mount the body infront of the rear tower and much lower.

I'm almost thinking the same. The kit should be cheap enough. Use the bodyset for the project, then add the remainder of the kit to the spares bin to keep the other DT02s I have in running order (DT02MS and Sand Viper).

I really dont get this attitude to re-res. Would someone explain it to me? "i feel so special". What, you dont feel so exclusive anymore? Seriously?

Just got back off hols so its a late one.

No biggie mate, perhaps I over emphasised and in a wrong way. I'm sure its been mentioned here before about the frustration of spending years looking for parts and spending a small fortune building this stuff blah blah blah, old territory now I'm sure.

Your also right, perhaps 'special' is a bad choice of word, 'slightly frustrated but coming to terms with it' might be more accurate. Oh and 'Seriously?' absolutely never, I've been away a while but still absolutely never serious about anything Tamiya related.

Having just got back and seen the pics of this one though, I'm positively enthusiastic about it. It opens up the SRB Rover projects!!!! I've hardly ever run mine knowing if I trash the body its gonna mean cutting up an old SR shell. Cant wait for the body sets! bashing to be done.

I'm with you on that. I've an original SR and have also been holding off running it too much.

I don't like the SR body on the DT-02 chassis as I like the scale look of the original, ie, leading link front suspension, wheels inside the arches and the bathtub chassis is pretty much fully enclosed so you dont see through the car.

Sacrilege to think it perhaps but is this new take on the SR is at least as good as the original?

Probably better in every respect when it comes to driving it and reliability, but sadly not for the look with those overextended suspension arms.

But following the mods made by other members to narrow the HB track width, it should be good.

That's what I'll do anyway.

The holes for the suspension mounts are still bad though...

hi Chain Driven, those overextended arms can easily b fix... i did a mod on the HB2010, narrowed down the width...

only problem is the holes for the suspension... front is easy solve, rear is abit more work... lucky thing this body is the normal ABS shell, unlike the HB2010...

I really hope this body is polystyrene like the majority of Tamiya hard bodies. There will be a >PS< embossed on the body if it's styrene (same plastic as a static model).

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is generally used only on Tamiya chassis parts and does not glue well and is very hard to get paint to bond well to it.

I have mine on order, really looking forward to thrashing this SR around :)

I think re-re's do have there place, it means we get to save our vintage models for a gentle beach run on a summers day, without fear of too much damage :(

My 3 vintage Sand Rovers are all runners, but i don't drive them with the same gusto i might have driven them 30 years ago, as bodyshells are few and far between now.

When a get my re-re SR, it will have a Pink motor, 12 turn esc, alloy shocks, anti roll bars, and different wheels. I think that is the beauty of a re-re, i don't feel so bad about changing parts and spoiling the look.

This will be used and abused, so want it to handle well, in stock form it would still outhandle the original, but i want some serious fun!! :) I know the handling of the original is part of the fun of Vintage Tamiya's, but why risk the damage and heartache, when you can use something that looks similar to the original, but you can use it like you was 13 again? :D

Just my slant on things :o

Cheers,

Paul.
