Frog ball differntial?

Recommended Posts

So has anyone out there ever tried to make their own?

How did you do it?

Seriously frustrated with it and the slipping.

So thought about taking the gear box of and building one from scratch.

Even thought about using the front or rear set up from a DB-01,

And trying to use a smaller belt.

I love the frog but just want it to take some abuse. Lol

Let me know what you have done or if you have any input or suggestions.

Thank you all.

Shawn

Have you tried shimming the diff with 5mm shims, or the oldfrogshot threaded diff screw mod?

Lock the diff with hot glue ? Won't do the cornering any favours but you'll be able able to put a lot of power through it without lot of crackly gear chewing type noises :D

hey maybe someone can make a retrofit ORV gearbox using the fluid-filled diff & gears from a TA06 :D

Buy a thorp.

Yes please, but from where? Do you have a source?

E-bay, you can also find all tamiya parts on there since tamiya doesn't carry parts.

Been on the lookout there for a while. Not much on offer for Thorp diffs.

Thanks guys.

But let be real. Who has over 100 to spend on finding one.

Has anyone sourced out parts to make one.

Not using thorp as a parts one, but finding other ball bearings that Tamiya or another companies make?

I have shimmer it, didn't help that much.

I feel like just ordering a whole new gear box and all the components,

But thought someone in Tamiya land had a clue.

Keep up the suggestions please.

Yes, a Thorp diff is a very rare and expensive collectible. Extremely hard to come across nowadays, without buying 2nd hand Frogs in the off chance one might come with a hidden Thorp diff treasure.

I wish Tamiya did a ball diff for the Frog. And the benefit is it would fit so many other cars - It would fit the Brat, Hot Shot, Boomerang, FAV, Wild One... And with a different spur it would also fit the monster ORVs like the Monster Beetle, Blackfoot...

The only other option is to get a something custom made. You could probably use some off-the-shelf parts for it, but would have to custom make the spur gear.

Another option is to replace the gearbox entirely. Check this 4WD Frog out:

I built a Frog style car and removed the rear end entirely and replaced it instead with a gearbox from a King Blackfoot.

Pros: Much stronger - enough to handle brushless power

Cheaper than trying to find old hop ups.

Cons: Wider rear track and shorter axle stub meaning that the standard Frog wheels dont fit, and you'll need some offset wheels so that it doesn't look odd.

Geared for 2.2 Monster Truck wheels and tyres, so you need a lower turn motor to gear it back up again.

If you're interested, the showroom link for it is here

HunterZero...

I will look into that this winter when I have more time.

SteelRat

I like the look.

That is one bad mofo.

I want to stay with the original look.

So was doing some work.

Anyone know what the size of the spur gear is?

I think I might be able to have one made with ball instead of the bevel gears.

Need the thickness

Only have Blackfoot parts at hand.

The spur is 8.3 mm thick and the part contacting the diff is 18.4 mm

The diff gear is 12.1 mm thick

Steel rat look into putting some TA02 rear arms on that converted super blackfoot rear, that will shrink down the track width of the rear.

Nice.. I will do! Thanks!

belt drive conversion! now there is an intersting idea, and good way to get a ball diff into a frog!

http://www.geocities.jp/home_niske/morefrogbeltcon.html

Does anyone know what differential this is? Where/which car it came from?

I might have some of the parts but that belt size is confusion me

Any help would be appreciated and I can do a build thread too.

Thank you

Diff looks close to TRF 415 . Of of that type , TA05. I have seen the delrin type out drives before .

If the diff is the type they are using then the belt may be the rear belt off the 415/ tao5/ tao4 etc or that type of car ?.

Ok hope this helps , Now i don't speak japanese .

But find this >>>>>>>translate.google.com/

& i copied & pasted it & this is what it said .

Not that good but it helps , so i hope some one the speaks japanese could trans late it better .

- Introduction - often the opportunity to meet the lord Frog recent run, I run good surprises me because the original sturdy body but this is our old bones. Tocopherol to be pretty good, so go Hashire narrow tread with extreme care and high center of gravity. . . (※ Gurahokurasu), seems to think that sex appeal and sprinkle. But Dogubon bone dog is the point of Frog's Watakushi, in the light of the drive although superior to the joint pure, combined in a loose nylon にゃ non-trailing arm that, around about the danger of falling off constantly You, Hey I Cho and dangerous.

As a child being run its 思Ikkiri, or joint Yattarou monkey ambition of universality was for some time! You and I decided not. All had a beginning in the first place · This · ·. · · ·

◆ ◆ ◆

○ - Chapter 1 universal ambition of CVD

Why the choice of CVD is not difficult Toka small rotational velocity baz, "was the target of 100 yen in Suraji Overstocks," that is why the cotton Kushirashii. Looking fit to try to choke on Frog, long bone shaft to wheel is short I obviously Yappashi.

For TA01 and so the Dogubon Pittashi, bought for rebuilding bone for as long TA04 (high!) Shows with "Umutsu, I can go" with the feedback.

Consider what to do with the foil and gas well. Well simple story, and I only I could extend.

In a while you prepared the following main components.

High-20L · M4 nuts

Enamel long he · M4

· Little spacer

Simply screw the fancy would just take out the torque 思Ikkiri immediately. Point in any case is "rotating" is.

In the M3 up to tap the high nut, cut the contact surface of the drive shaft has to be fixed Imoneji. Pointed in the coffin for an instant connection with enamel and legal services from the other side even more.

This enamel is also responsible for wheel set screw. This way, the over-rotating Yo important part. Hex hubs were carved into the shape of the fixing nut.

The axial runout of no thought so, you'll do very easily universal Doh.

And wow, "velocity" - A joint it!

On, when we assembled. . - Including sales, which dropped in the rotation and will not light!

And - only, where the problem arose.

I say crazy rasping clearance of the Def Def Dogubon were going at.

I set Naoshida Korya clearance. . . Now Mendoku.

Or something along those of an open differential gap control this subtle to begin with.

○ - Chapter 2 - or belt drive momentum

Mini-held radio in those days just in heaven. I ransacked the various parts and junk in the excitement of waking Yaranu Then I suddenly came to Aranu.

"What is a diff Arun write to it with Frog."

This was the beginning of Chapter 2.

The width of the gear box 16 and the Frog is very thin Miri. And even now it is different from the support. . . .

Gasagoso and intuition dictates Tetara because there is no such a thing even possible. . . Mutsu, this guy is nicely offset U I'll thin.

And took the hand is This Fellow.

Later found that, for 35T Quattro is like the ABC.

Who seem to obtain again something that too. . .

Really is not luxury Delrin'm thankful not say more.

Say that spending money on the guy is happily in my belt or is not required has become a problem, then I worked in the uniform selection from $ 0.50 I could use pulleys and shafts.

Champ the day and went to Konan, Iloilo and ransacked before closing time and Tema****a.

In the interim and try to pair I bought parts. . .

Oh! So I go in a tight clearance Seriously!

I had the same diameter as the outer diameter φ15 bearing support plate punching press diameters def fact.

~ ♪ Hamaruyan force but

The belt looks like in the 144L. Arun's suit and write?

And becomes high and the other Norinori.

Holders Spurs put together those things and Suripparashiki pulley.

Choice is so flimsy I, and this is the best slipper out much trouble if 生Kasere. . .

I've never seen and is open only on the adjusting screw. . . This space is quite crispy and Ikimahen.

- Including sales, I do not think of a way somehow. . .

·

·

·

We do! Chow and I-I do I can adjust from outside bearing support tube on the bite and then axially free!

You can plan on the second day Ttena, 固Marima****a spar around the image.

The central shaft or junk for what he is unknown. The left half Butta切Tsu, I get the right trim φ3 5 in Miri. Moraiya****a been forced to shave on a lathe into I baked.

The outer diameter of the slipper and spur holder is in contact with since I shaved Chokotto def.

Multiplied by the spring tension of the three dishes. Too subtle adjustment range. . . .

Complete this area we'll have Bochibochi running.

I do not quite such a daemon - What is it exactly the way φ3xφ4 spacers.

Is assembled like this.

The bearing adjustment nut can slide freely.

That is not exploitable from the outside via a spacer and tighten it.

• In the selection of pinion and spur here

It is a reasonable line if you want to use a 48 pitch pinion and spur the car off the generic.

So what do I do the selection from among the many numbers of teeth. . .

First, the distance between the two axes you know the number of teeth and the module is easy to get.

The distance between the axis of the Frog is the motor shaft and spur, 49T spur with 19T pinion is present,

So module 0.8

0.8x (19 +49) / 2 = 27.2

. . . And.

MAX diameter of the spar and then examine, and tight clearance around φ40 from Def.

And that tells you the maximum number of 48-pitch spur teeth.

(By the way, 48 and pitch of 1 / 48 inch, about 0.529 module)

40/0.529 ≒ 75.6

76T pinion and temporarily when the number of teeth now. .

0.529x (☆ +76) / 2 = 27.2

I do not solve the ☆ of 26.835. . . Be. I feel a close look at the 27T,

The safe choice is an 26T fraction truncated.

So, we have a spur and 76T pinion 26T.

The gear ratio is determined. (76/26) · (35/15) ≒ 6.82!低U!

This is the least likely to increase difficulty, including - sales, I was dedicated to Kolya - 540.

In the gear box 組付Kema****a again.

Exactly into the belt as if the MR-132L is tailor-made for 4!

This time was pretty excited.

, And from here I say Yappashi, severe space in this very issue in the proper clearance,

In the tenth in Miri teamed with shims and Rose became a game of repetition.

Offset the usual great motor.

For now all told - finished!

○ - Chapter 3 - Correctional play the swing arm (Bonus)

Not to say that somehow can wax tea anyway so rickety swing arm. . .

You did play in correcting the long axis of the screw through the left and right suspension.

The skill can not be wrong Furutore.

Speaking's right, or somewhere out dirt Tema****a Hey Berners such parts.

Aluminum disc system Manta Ray Ball Diff parts actually. The Pittashi.

. . . With that. .

- No, I 出来上Gatsu by leaps and bounds in a tea to Norinori Really.

Test stand is OK anyway!

I now work is boiled down to go running with.

- Our sales,'ll shake-down

◆ ◆ ◆

- Postscript - I'm a timid person, when touched but "back to its original state," has been implicit in the golden rule of Tteiu. How well this belt, and the state of the bolt-quote-unquote. Thanks to that I say, is the Frog looks very ordinary. I just got a little anxious yet - I want to raise the goal to complete the race will not be able to retire anyway.

Then try it over three more frogs.

do not worry about the belt, they're all S3M standard timing belts.

Just work out what length is required & u can order them in any length you need.

frog custom diff:-

beltfrog6.jpg

pulley probably 35T from an early TRF415

outdrives are not TRF415, i have used 415's delrin outdrives before and they are different

53804_a.jpg

Sides are more coneshaped and a thicker stem before a step to the 1510 bearing;

although could've been custom cut from above, probably not enough meat for that kind of machining.

If he's got access to a lathe/machist it wouldn't be too hard to cut one out of billet delrin from scratch anyways.

Although delrin diffs don't last too long, be better off using alloy outdrives from later 415s.
