I dont think well be seeing youtube footage of 30ft backflips featuringa vajra to be honest.

I think people might even try it... just to see it disintegrate in mid-air! ;)

For a good basher to compete with a Traxxas, I think the following rules describe well what the car has to comply to:

1. Simple design, no unnecessary parts, fixtures etc, easy to work on/maintain > Simple construction.

2. Designed for toughness, not for rigidity and on the edge handling > Weight is not a big issue, though an overweight car does demand stronger parts in crashes.

3. Affordable on purchase, and spare parts cheap as chips (and preferably cheaper) > No titanium or carbon fibre, the least amount of machined parts possible (preferably all moulded parts and/or sheet parts).

4. Something that has a unique selling point > For Tamiya, this means they don't have to make blob bodies with tribal designs like the Traxxas' - it's not the right approach to compete and not the reason why the cars sell so well, even though some people like the looks of it.

Of the 4 points mentioned above, the Vajra has... none? The only thing simple about it's design are the chassis plates, as they can be cut from sheets, but they could've done this from FRP or aluminium as well. And even then, a moulded tub is probably cheaper at the numbers a good basher sells by. Now I could be wrong about these points making a good basher, but there's at least a word of truth in them...

Yeah I am not sold on this car.... but mind you if I had stupid amounts of money I would buy it just because its got the Tamiya name on it.... nothing else.

Might become a real collectable in years to come as they are rare??

As I had mentioned in the previous threads, I believe Vajra"s current existence was probably a re-release of a shelved 4wd stadium racer project in the early 1990"s (shelved when the Avante 2001 didnt improved sales) . They probably revived it on the basis that the re-released Avante sold well. The Levant bodyshell was probably developed for the Vajra initially . <_< my contribution of a conspiracy theory  what do ya all think?

Have to say that I'm of that opinion too.

So much for the boycotting of their stuff because of the repro ban. <_<

[Anyway, interesting name, and interesting Wiki description for those of us who had no clue what a Vajra might be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajra

Good old wikipedia. When I first read Vajra, it does have a Tibatin Buddhism ring to it like jhana, nibbana, asubha etc...Tamiya sure came a long ways from names like "Being nuts is Neat" or "No Guts" For that I will buy it when it comes out but not at $800.00 even is in US$

I agree. I haven't seen a new release in ages from tamiya that has made me stop in my tracks, maybe the container trailer but the price managed to put me off that. lol. When was the last time you looked at the tamiyaclub homepage and saw new release tamiya models in peoples showrooms ? Usually its just vintage, rerelease, or non tamiya vehicles people are adding.

I believe tamiya have just released this in the hope that people will buy this purely because its a tamiya (as some people in this thread have already said they would) Maybe some people will I don't beleive there is anything wrong with that, but i won't be buying it, I don't think its up to scratch and i hope this isn't a sign of things to come that we are seeing from tamiya. I do not believe tamiya currently offers the quality, versitility or value for money other brands can. I'm sad to say it but i find my collection slowly moving away from tamiya and into other brands which is a shame because i like tamiya products, i just can't justify the cost anymore

You're all missing the point - the reason it seems so expensive is because the american dollar isnt worth a pinch of **** anymore lol

I dont like this truck either, but everybody who like the Avante should be happy they made this truck. This will be one of the first models to hit the discount rack. The good thing is it is full of Avante parts. BUy it when its on sale(Below Avante prices) and just part out all the stupid truck parts you dont need.

So the Vajra is on the way to Stella soon and at $410 even they cannot offer it cheaper than the Avante.

December's competition then : Name the date that the 10th Vajra is listed in the TC showrooms? I will go for March 13th..... 2014. :D

And to date, the count of Vajra kits in TC showrooms is.... 0.

Come on, you could still be the first to add one to your showroom!

Seriously, I don't think it will be long before there is a 1/2 price clearout on these... What were Tamiya thinking with the ugly body, underspec chassis and ludicrous price for this thing?

 You'll forever be famous on TC for making the worst buy in the century... Unless they go in the 50% clearout and you buy one then, that is :P I think Tamiya were trying out an experiment to see whether people buy anything from them that they release (speaking of reasonable sales numbers here). The answer to that will be NO, so now they're trying out where the limits are with the SR2011, Blackfoot III and Mud Blaster II...

By the way, besides owners on TC, have you noticed there's only one video of the Vajra on Youtube? It's a 'review' (not really extensive though) with just over 500 views (the vid had been on there since the 24th of August)... Now that's what I call a popular car! :) Here's the full review by the way (CLICK) - Shame they didn't test it more thorough imo, I would've liked to see an extensive review on it's durability.

Hahah, a whole 1 minute of video. I wouldn't even call that a review, it's merely an overview.

Compared to the number of Avante videos on Youtube...

And when they say it's "one for the Tamiya enthusiast & collector"... Ahh, no. It's not. Despite the vague similarity to the Avante 2011, the Vajra has no collector appeal apart from the diehard cashed up Tamiya completist.

I reckon they will switch all of it's parts & production to an Egress re-release within 6 months...

this one never really appealed to me but with the current specials at rcmart i coulndt resist.

Let's face it this is the only way they are going to sell.

Tamiya should do the right thing and dump this one then bring back the Egress instead.

I'm a fan of neither the "I don't like it, but it was on sale!" nor the "I don't like it, but since it's Tamiya I'll buy it!" reasoning.
