$812 :) PMSL :(

Get real Tamiya , not only the disappointment about what it is, but the price is a joke - be interesting to see how the real world pricing compares.

Wow, thats expensive !

Doesn't look great either, I've never had any experience of this chassis but i would say it looks somewhat fragile.

I'm all for the rereleases, they bring me back to my younger years but i can't help thinking tamiya has put all of its efforts into releases, here we have what is essentially a rerelease chassis with a cheap body on it passed off as a new car, aimed at a market which already has some stronger, cheaper and better looking contenders from other manufacturers.

Come on tamiya, step it up a bit !

That's the MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail) not the street price.

It's just above the listed msrp for the avante so we can expect the same street price as the Avante is my guess.

Yes, a bit over what it should be but with the proper coupons online it's on my list .

The front end of that is going to SNAP! off in a big crash or failed table top jump landing.

Wayyyy to much weight forward of that WAAAY to narrowing front part of the chassis.

I bet holding the front and rear in separate hands that you can already flex the chassis somewhat.

Does this answer your question?

Here we have what is essentially a rerelease chassis with a cheap body on it passed off as a new car, aimed at a market which already has some stronger, cheaper and better looking contenders from other manufacturers.

It could've been so much better with a bit more thought, and observation of current market trends.

i think the price point could be good news for all those wanting a full on three speed rere, if they can put out this then they aren't afraid to have the cost of the high end models represented in the market even in this current climate!

but what is the market it is aimed at?

Too high on it's legs to be stable, body too high on the chassis (chassis is visible too much), no undercowl to protect the chassis and electronics (that's probably the reason for the huge ground clearance), the deep wheels make the suspension show too much... It kind of looks like they put so much effort and time in making the Avante 2011 a decent re-release that they just needed to slack on other things and projects...

yes, its a reissue of the ball differential and Torque splitter set that was on the egress.

sweet hop-ups for my unbuilt shelf queen Avante! :)

Can someone explain what the logic was behind basing a stadium truck on the chassis of a car known more for its looks than performance. I mean if people have a soft spot for the Avante only because it's pretty, then why would they buy an overpriced underperforming truck with all of the original pretty stripped away?

My sentiments exactly !

This car just strikes me as a lazy offering from tamiya. Tamiya can not expect this truck to be competitive in the market place. There are better performing, better looking and cheaper stadium trucks out there. Are tamiya hoping we will all rush out and buy this simply because it is a tamiya ?

The way things are going a re-release of a metal three speed could well be Tamiya's first RC kit with a four figure price tag.

Things like this effort are enough to drive Tamiya customers into the arms of other manufacturers.

is call using up the parts bin or common bin to keep the cost down. the price from Tamiya USA is they don't really want to sell to to the general public but rather you buy from the retailers. If you insist on paying double, they will glad to take you money and its regional / local distributors/retailer will not be upset give the buyer is a uninform consumer and TamiyaUSA will not be blamed.

As for the Vajra, what kind of name is that?, is OK but not in my must have list.

It reminds me of the "monster truck conversions" that were all the rage in 1988 or so.

Interesting concept. The price is outlandish and must be a joke of some sort. It must be a joke. Very few people jumped on the Super Levant at this price point, and it was brushless....

Anyway, interesting name, and interesting Wiki description for those of us who had no clue what a Vajra might be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajra

Would be interesting if this thread had a poll.

Looks like a toy that can be bought from Kmart for $40.

Fail.

Not sure why the poll didn't take. I've tried several times, but it won't show up.

I'm boggled by the price. It's way too expensive. Its price takes it almost into stratospheric TRF chassis price range. The Vajra may have a CF chassis, but it doesn't look to me like it has the 'precision' highly refined feel that the alu bulkhead TRF cars have. The Vajra costs even more than the Avante on which it's based, and yet doesn't have all the bling. It doesn't have the metal rose joints, and it doesn't even have TRF/aerated dampers. If it had a price point of around 3/4 of the Avante price, then maybe.

But I still can't think who would buy this kit. It's too expensive for a basher, and not sure if it would be suitable to race as a stadium truck racer - or is it? Isn't most short course truck RC racing 2WD? I'd like to see someone try racing it tho...

Is it meant to be a competitor to the Traxxas Slash?

I still think its more aimed at the kinds of people that would by an e revo. Tamiya see people that are prepared to pay £400 for a car that doesnt have any scale looks and presumably figure that they can do the same thing if the chassis is of a suitably high spec. The problem is the e-revo isnt particularly high spec, its just fast and tough as old boots. I dont think well be seeing youtube footage of 30ft backflips featuringa vajra to be honest.
