Modifying Rough rider /Sand Scorcher shcoks ?

Recommended Posts

Started to strip my ebay buy Rough Rider for its clean and rebuild last night, starting with the shocks

As expected 2 of the shocks were bone dry from years of storage, and the other two had a small amount of dirty oil in them. All four rubber o rings were pretty hard and aged, again no surprise there :)

When i inspected all the parts after cleaning i noticed two of the brass pistons had a small flat on the side, almost as though someone had added this to allow a bit more freedom in the shock movement.

Have they actually been modded or were they like this originally (not got them infront of me so can't say whether they are the long or short shafted ones) ?

If this is a modification, is it worth doing the same to the other two ? - I assume this would give some additional freedom in piston movement, especially if the shocks are overfilled slightly.

Thanks

I'm not shure but RCH/CRP have aftermerket pistons for SRB's.

Thanks - CRP certainly do rebuild kits (parts 1518 and 1522) which appear to use nylon piston 'rings' vs the original Tamiya brass ones - no idea how they differ in actual profile though for the info i can find.

I guess i'll rebuild one of each piston type and see if the one with the flatted piston is any different, good or bad.
