Okay, i'll admit that this is a time wasting topic, but I wonder what everyone listens to while they enjoy building their Tamiya's.

Tonight while I am working on my my Shelf Scorcher project I thought I would venture back to the early '90's-'00's and get nostalgic with some Boards of Canada, DJ Shadow, and a little Portishead. I like the down-tempo genre...helps me relax. If I am feeling a little silly i'll watch some of the vintage Tamiya promotional videos on YouTube.

Fair warning, and no offense to your TC name, but if anyone says Kenny G I'm gonna hurl. :)

Yeah, it's an unfortunate nick-name, but since my last name starts with G it fits I guess. I have been called that for as long as I can remember.

It never fails, I introduce myself and people will say: "Like Kenny G, the guy who plays the sax?". Then they raise their hands to their mouth and they make the "playing the sax gestgure", followed by: "Can you play us a song?". In the past I somtimes had to fight the urge to punch them in the weinner.

When im restoring Kyosho i tend to listen to Kings of Leon or Coldplay although when im driving i tend to get to destination quicker if i play some old skool house music lol, im also not ashamed to admit i dont mind listening to a bit of Take That, being of similar age and being from same location as 3 of them im kinda supporting the lads lol

Kenny G..... Nah just kidding I have Bob the Builder on as that is what my 2 year old is in to at the moe.

but if that isn't on Queen, Foo Fighters, Def Leppard to name a few of a huge random playlist on the iPod

I usually end up listening to Radio 4 comedy like

, Bleak Expectations or Count Arthur Strong

The missus bought me a DAB radio for chrimbo last year so I can listen to 4 Extra too

Music-wise, usually AC/DC, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, older Iron Maiden (before they started exceeding 8 minutes per song) Turisas, Helloween, Airbourne, Bobnoxious (the Canadian one as opposed to Bob Noxious) etc. and a bit of Lordi :)

I've got wide ranging music tastes, Foo Fighters and Nirvana, Take That, Elton John, but my particular favourites are Queen and some old school late 80's house music. You can't beat Pump Up The Volume to get you jigging in the chair.

I don't listen any music in particular when building a kit... When building my TRF201 last week I listened to a good few albums of Frank Zappa :( But I could've listened Maybeshewill, Saxon Shore, Ayreon, Gogol Bordello, Infected Mushroom, Korpiklaani, The Long Winters, Rapalje, Wolfstone, De Raggende Manne, The Soviettes, Sonata Arctica, Celldweller, Atlas Plug or anything in between :)

Said in short: You won't hear me listening Hardcore, not a lot of Hiphop and similar stuff, no Top chart music and usually no classical music... :P So not when I'm building a Tamiya either.

Forgot to add a Bit of classic MC Hammer always goes down well when weilding a Kyosho Box wrench.

barring the above, you will never hear me play rap / hip-hop / gangsta rubbish, it just aint my bag, too many refernces to "caps in bums" "Booty", "Biatches (female dogs)" "Negative Police references" (although i partially agree a lot of them are tools, and 2 of my mates are coppers and yes one of them is a tool!)

Yup can honestly state i never heard of any of those lol.

Sat at my computer working with a CD in the drive currently playing "the Kooks", next up is "The Verve" (its raining outside lol)

I don't normally listen to any particular music when wrenching, but for one day a year for the last two years now, I have been able to sit down and indulge in a Tamiya build, while watching an endurance car race we have in Australia called The Bathurst 1000. It makes for a really pleasurable day :)

Nothing particular to building or tinkering, but I usually have a bit of loud rock on when I'm sat at my desk / work table: Airbourne, ACDC, Dragonforce, Dream Evil, Sonata Artica, Iron Fire, Rhapsody, Alice Cooper, Angra, Stratovarius, Hammerfall et al.

Nice :P Just a gamble here, but I think you might appreciate The Long Winters and Wolfstone if you like the Kooks - though I won't claim the artists are a lot alike :( Exactly what makes music so nice!

Nice list :P I didn't know Iron Fire and Angra yet, but it sounds really good! Perhaps you'll also appreciate a few of these artists: Labyrinth, Ayreon (and Arjen Lucassen's side projects: Star One, Ambeon and Guilt Machine), Stream of Passion, Equilibrium, The Grailknights, Korpiklaani, Turisas, Alestorm, Sabaton, Mustasch, Rishloo, Russell Allen, Svartsot, Threshold, Wintersun and Samavayo :)

@Origineelreclamebord: Frank Zappa........NICE!!! To this day his was one of the best if not THE best concert I have been to in my life. Saw him in 1987. For those who have never heard him - he is one of the best guitar players and composers who EVER lived.

As for me, when I'm building you will usually find me listening to some sort of fusion album (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc.), or, more than likely as I have been a RABID Deadhead for 26 years - a random Grateful Dead concert. At last count I had over 1700 shows on 6 external hard drives. There was NOTHING like a Dead show :) ......

Usually I have the TV on in the background (TV card in the PC). Not paying much attention to what show is on, as long as there is some background noise.

If I have music on it's playing on random from a 500gb HDD full of mp3's with everything from pop to classical to rock to heavy metal. No real genre or theme to the collection. Again just background noise and not paying that much attention to it.

lmao!!! Sometimes when I am getting frustrated and on the brink of throwing tools, it could help (Kenny G).. No, not really. haha. I never really thought about playing music while building. My only ritual when building (or fixing) buggies is that I like a good cold beer while I work.

I'm jealous! I was too young to have been to any of his concerts... I was born in '91. However, I did get the opportunity to go to Zappa plays Zappa in 2009 (almost a once in a life time chance to do so in the Netherlands I think), and I was blown away by their performance! :) I also saw a local Zappa cover band play with Ike Willis a few days before, which was also very cool!

This is absolutely an awesome thread! :P

A little side-step of the original topic... Whereas I don't have special music for building my cars, it does often happen to me that I have a tune in my head in combination with some cool action pictures or movie shots of one of my cars :(

So...whatcha listen to when you build Tamiya's?

My Girlfriend....

What! another car, but you already got so many...

Guess what, showing pictures of some you guys hobby rooms does not help.

:)

(well since I sold some with a little profit and took her out for an nice dinner it improved :( )

Pushing the boat out a bit judging on listed tastes so far...I like a bit of deep house from the likes of Eelke Klein and Jody Wisternoff (one half of Way Out West) ambling along in the background but the iPod's got everything from Green Day to Public Enemy to Roxy Music to Paul Weller. Variety is the spice of life an all that. I also enjoy a good bottle of beer too (Hook Norton Haymaker, Okell's IPA or Hobgoblin).

Much of the time tho the wife will be working at the desk next to me (she's a teacher) so I end up muttering away to myself trying to work out how part A fits into hole B using screw C :)

Have been whistling "Holiday Road" from National Lampoon's Vacation since I got in this evening. God only knows....

Blimey.. will have to look them up. Only ones I knew from that list was Sabaton and Turisas. Ironically, don't have any of their music, but have seen them both when they've been supporting other bands. (Sabaton supported Dragonforce a couple of years back, and Turisas were at Download this year)

Everytime I'm in my hobbyroom I'm listening to Marillion Mistplaced, Cluthing and Fugazi.

That's mi working at home music!

Good choice!

I've also found that I really like some of the Hogarth era, especially marbles and afraid of sunlight. Check it out sometime.

Also like Fish solo work.

I have a ton of music and what I listen too is very random. Could be Marillion, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Eurythmics, Zappa, Mozart, Beethoven, Van Der Graaf, King Crimson, Ultravox, Springsteen, A-ha. (OK, I do like prog) Right now I have Vangelis on.

Often times I have reruns of the mythbusters on in the background when building. I like the show, but once I've seen an episode I don't have the attention to re-watch it without doing something.
