Hi i just put together a holiday buggy 2010 it's so slow with the 380 ,,,, I was looking at the stock tamiya 540 and they also make a 540 J johnson motor how much faster is the J motoer than the stock 540?

Also in the holiday buggy would the sport tuned be the best choice or would a little slower be good for this thing?

THANKS

The Johnson "J" motor 540 and the Mabuchi 540SH are of similar specification. Both are 27 turn single. Both are about 15,000rpm on 7.2v. Both have been included as 'standard' 540 motors in Tamiya kits.

Sport Tuned would be quicker than the 'silvercan' 540s. I don't think too much power or speed. I have a 4600Kv MambaMax brushless in my DT02, and that I would call fast.

When you do fit the 540 sized motor you will need a new pinion gear (the one on the motor). Buy a steel 32dp (19 tooth and 17 tooth) instead of the very soft Tamiya aluminium pinions. Part numbers ARW3200-19 and ARW3200-17.

I just ordered the 540 J type motor for some reasion it's a few bucks more than the standard version 540? whyis the J motor more $ if it's the same as a stock 540?

I have a 17 tooth pinion already.

I will see how it goes as the 380 is to slow for me now.... I don't want it super fast as i have other RC's for that with the holiday buggy it's more of a FUN car to drive for me and i think if it was fast it would be prone to more brakage on the body for sure so this is why i want to keep it at just a fun speed to run.
