Hi all, Thanks for viewing this thread, will try not to be to long winded with the build,

1st, as the SR2011 is based on the entry-level buggy, DT-02, it is rather a easy build, i completed up the main chassis in abt 2hrs, minus all the electronics...

2nd, like my HB2010, i will be modding the wheel width down to have they within the body arches...those interested.. please check the links below for the guide

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...mp;#entry416027

3rd, as this shell is the normal plastic shell, i will try to mod and cover both the front & rear suspension holes

lastly, i will add any more mod i might do...

once again, thanks for viewing and all comments welcome

regards,

Nice built on a basically classic RC model. Allow me one comment to the design - adressing Mr Tamiya directly:

Where is the point of designing high reaching rear (and front) damper bridges causing the body to look like a swizz cheese, when the damper itself contains a 15mm long tube on the damper shaft to limit the suspension movement?

Tamiya designers must have taken some dope when proposing to punchwhole such a nice body!

I cannot believe what an effort they go through to kill the lean look of a body by raising the damper bridges for no reason causing several holes in such a nice body!?!.

But may be I am an idiot and the holes are the latest art of weight reduction means to give the car the upper edge of performance....

Can somebody help me here?

Sorry me friend, but I hope you find ways to fix this radio controlled swiss cheese...

I have one of these on order, can't wait to get it started :D

I agree with what has been said above, i'm sure Mr Tamiya could have redesigned the shock towers slightly for this, and the re-re holiday buggy, so that holes wouldn't have to be made in 2 beautiful bodyshells? :)

Having said that, i'm kinda glad that this has been released, as it means i can resign my 3 original Sand Rovers, which are all runners, to light beach runs in the summer, and use this for full on high speed runs just about anywhere :(

I won't be so worried about damaging this bodyshell, as so much of it is missing already :):o

Cheers,

Paul.

I honastly do not think the holes are a problem or the track.

Firstly let us all remember the HB 2010 and the SR 2011 are basic entry level kits clearly aimed at beginers/new commers to the hobby.

NOT collectors and enthusiastic older more experienced modellers.

Also with the cost of tooling and whats happened in Japan Tamiya need to make money as easily and as quickly as possible.

I understand that the HB and SR is not too most people's liking but they will be mostly sold in Japan and its neighbouring Countries.

WE are not Tamiya's main market.

They have a DT02 championship in most of the Countries over that way. (wish we had one)

Now I have said all this before and it killed the thread, most likely as people cannot handle the fact it is true.

Let us all embrace the HB 2010 and SR 2011 for what they really are ............. Fun cars !

I will be getting one, maybe two. love it !

Big thanks to Des for the fab build pics

Haha, does indeed look rather frog-eyed.

I actually prefer this to the HB 2010, the wheels sticking out of the full fenders on that just look kind of weird...

Still, I'm likin' it :)

I am really looking forward to getting a couple of these SR 2011's

So many idea's and plans wizing around in my head, I have already painted up my HB2010 wheels ready for the look I have in mind.

If this car doesn't get me to the beach I do not know what will !

I think it looks great! who cares about a few holes. cry me a river... The car is designed to be played with! I'll get one and try to convince my wife's brother-in-law to get one too! The HB is a hoot to drive and the children actually really like the look of it here, strangely enough!

It is good to hear from someone actually from Tamiya's home Country.

Your point is my point exactly.

You lot over there must have a great laugh at all the pathetic things us British people whine about.

I did not think these where available yet.

I like the body, with the right shocks you can make a real feature of them poking through the body :)

I agree as well, as much as i love the original Sand Rover, it does have it's limitations B)

I am really looking forward to building and using my re-re Sand Rover, without the fear of damage, and will i be able to afford or get replacement parts

On a totally different note, good to hear from one of our Japanese brothers, and i would just like to say i hope everything is getting back on track in your country, and you are starting to heel the wounds that have been dealt to your people by Mother Nature :(;) My thoughts are with you all

Sorry to go off topic.

Cheers,

Paul.

Looking good.

I am interested in what you have done with the shocks. The manual for the HB2010 has the rubber tube inside the shock body, rather than visible under the spring. Is the manual different for the SR, or is there an advantage to setting them up this way?
