Hello all:

I purchased a Bear Hawk on Ebay about a month ago and I am getting ready to run this. While testing to see if everything work, I noticed that the gears within the gear box are excessively loud. I believe that it the same gear box as my Blitzer Beetle which is as quiet as a mouse. What's causing these gears chatter like this and what can I do to stop the chatteringicon_smile_question.gif

Any help is appreciated. This will be my sons runner icon_smile_approve.gif.

P.S. There appears to be ample lubricant on the gears themselves.

I have found that when gears get loud its one of 2 things. The 1st is a worn bushing. Check that all bearing/bushings in the gear box are still in good condition. Secondaly it could be that a gear is chipped/damaged. More often than not its a worn bearing that caused the gears to come out of line and start to damage each other. This is just based on personal experience in different cars but i am sure other people have other ideas. Hope this helps.

Another thing to check is if the gears are meshed too tightly together (only applies to gears which are adjustable, like the spur/pinion).

Also check if there is any crud (junk, stuff) wedged between the teeth of the gears. This happened alot on my Traxxas Stampede until I closed a hole in it's gearbox. Sand/dirt would accumulate in the teeth of the spur and pinion.

I ALWAYS take appart all the cars I have bougth 2nd had and regrease them just to make sure. Just clean everything up very well and really take your time for it! I always make sure they are 100% clean, and I use the Tamiya Anti-Wear grease for the 'dogbones'. This stuff came with my Ferrari and it works great! I put it on all my cars and it increases the life of the dogbones. icon_smile_cool.gif

I have lately bought an old Bear Hawk as well and I am going to do the same with it as with all my cars: just take it completely apart and clean EVERYTHING. Then apply sufficient grease on the gears and assemble the gearboxes first. (Just to get the nasty work over with sooner...don't get me wrong, it's kinda fun too!) icon_smile.gif

I bet this is going to take ages on my HotShot, just like my Marui because these are 4WD and have two gearboxes... icon_smile_shock.gif Well, just work hard and look out for the result, that always workes for me! In your case, John, you might want to think about your sun having fun; in stead of seeing him complainig about broken gears. icon_smile_wink.gificon_smile_approve.gif It's best doing things right the first time. icon_smile_big.gif

I love Sand Scorchers, but I don't have one... Please help this poor collector...icon_smile.gifid=size1>

You're welcome. icon_smile_big.gif

I hope my bad a$$ BH runner wil do good... Have to take out those window nets on it because they belong to the HotShot... icon_smile_wink.gif Now just to find a spot to run it first... icon_smile.gif

Why did noone mention sand and dirt in the gearbox? icon_smile_shock.gif That causes a lot of noise (and wear!) as well. That's why I always clean up EVERYTHING. icon_smile_big.gif
