..stripped down tonight my second rough rider, bought from ebay a month back.

On first arrival the car looked pretty good, minor repairs needed to original shell, radio box needed but other than that just looked a little dirty with worn out rear tyres and Sand Rover rims.

Anyway, 20 minutes later...down to component parts...

...not too bad at first glance, but wait..

...what's that ? - mouse droppings ??, red paint where there should be silicone sealant ? and what's leaking from the geearbox ?

hmm, better take a better look inside..

Nice - thick black, green grease - poor motor trying to turn that lot !

Motor covers..

Gears after a quick degrease - much better !

Now just imagine what they do to their own 1:1 car when servicing it : (

Based on the mouse droppings, I would guess they might drive a Ford Mousetank and what is this "service" thing you speak of?

Wow, that's one of the worst SRB gearboxes I've ever seen & I've seen some nasty ones.

At least it still has both the motor stay nubs & should be ok after a good clean.

good luck with the restore

eBay

In fairness though the car is near complete, one front spring missing and the radio box. The gearbox obviously hasn't had the correct grease or sealant applied but the rest is just years of storage on a shelf in someones garage. It presumably didn't see much sunlight as the tyres show no sign of age degradation.

Quick update...

..been able to do a bit on this SRB in betwen paint coats on SRB#2. As at lunchtime today..

Motor end cover, rear cage and original grey bumper to fit tonight.

With no radio box to hand i'm going naked with this SRB - servo, RX and ESC will be servo taped to the chassis plate and battery pack will be held with cable ties - will keep the weight nice n central if nothign else. If last night's ebay win works OK then the ESC will be a LRP Indy 200.

Silver can motor installed (as per SRB #1, SRB #3 runs Ansmann Clash 21T) using the 65T spur/20T pinion

I will save brushless for SRB #4 when i get on with that project :P !!

Does that mean he stored it where the sun doesn't shine?

Remember that gear cover..

IMG_0159.jpg

well after an overnight soak in a mixture of household bleach and warm water (20/80 mix) it now looks like this..

IMG_0271-1.jpg

whatever the red paint / sealant / grease / gloop was just lifted off/dissolved away leaving a nice clean gear cover - its not quite as white as the picture suggests and yes there are some micro cracks evident but this one will be modified to go over a slipper clutch set up in one of my other SRB projects.

I had similar blue gunk on one of the chassis' i got from eBay, again it dissolved away and left a clean casing but it was horrible stuff
