Blitzer beetle re release

Recommended Posts

Hello , I'm new to this site , but have been a keen r.c enthusiast since 1989 . starting with the awesome Hornet . I have owned quite a few Tamiya buggys and trucks over the years .

I then moved from cars to aero . up until recently never even thought about the world of Tamiya ......Until i passed a new model shop here in Aberdeen ,Scotland. In the window was a sand scorcher " holy ****" I exclaimed rather loudly , shocking fellow shoppers ..... walked in and drooled at the beauty . taking me back to those great days I had with my friends racing r.c cars

As a kid I had always loved the look of Tamiya buggies and always wanted a monster beetle , blackfoot or blitzer but could never afford one . then just the other day I ordered the re release Blitzer Beetle online..

I have to wait for delivery from china but would like to hear if anyone has a Re release and what you think of it ...

I take great pleasure building kits so look forward to spending a few nights building the beetle .

There is only two of us in TC with the rere BB, and the other guy doesn't post on the forums (that I am aware of).

You will find a more detailed description here in the other Blitzer thread, post 43 and on http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...63089&st=25

Basically, it's a Blitzer Beetle. No real opinion other than expected as they haven't changed it mechanically. Electronically it now has an electronic speed control opposed to the msc of the original, and it's lost it's back window and gained some extra holes in the body because Tamiya used the Sand Scorcher moldings.

OI BMT my blitzer may not be a rere but with all the mods and upgrades plus having replaced the shell with a scorcher rere it might as well be . God knows it would have being cheaper to start NIB then sorting this one out to handle and have some speed but wheres the fun it that lol .

The question as asked about the re-re, I responded directly to that  Which is valid, as Tamiya are doing all random stuff these days with the authenticity of the reres.

Still think there's more fun to be had improving on the original design and making the car tamiya could have lol. The Blitzer suffers from soft micky mouse shocks , cronic bump steer and need hardlinks to make it anything like a decent runner . Surely for the re re tamiya could have sorted these issues out or is it a case of just wanting us to buy their old product with all its inherant faults ? Time tamiya got their act together and if they must do re re at least make some improvements .

to anyone buying one i'd do all the following hop ups . bin the pinion and replace it with a steel one . get some decent shockers . hardlink the top joints and steering tie rods . And if you intend fitting a more powerful motor touring car hard cups and blackfoot extreme CVD'S are a must . the orininal drive shafts are pants and snap very easily .

I've looked into the bumpsteer and have a fix. It just needs a bit of grinding to be completed

If it works I'll post a tutorial on the main site.

The re-re is the same as the original mechanically, so the bump steer is still there. I have a 17x2T motor in my original and its great fun. The only things to watch..

1 the rear tyres don;t last very long - a few donuts on tarmac and they're 50% worn (yes that quickly !)

2 if you intend to run it on the beach or arund water / wet surfaces then the chassis tub is very exposed to the spray and dirt kicked up by the front wheels so its best to fabricate some inner wheel arches from flexicard or similar.

3 the front shocks always need several c clip preload spacers ont hem to hold the front end of the car up, even when stationary

The bumpsteer is a characteristic which makes the car more fun to drive - its rather comical watching the front wheels shimmy about when you reverse though lol!

The Blitzer imho is one of Tamiyas best 2WD bashers in terms of sheer fun. Relatively cheap, looks great, durable and most importantly a hoot to drive. I have a 13.5t EZRun brushless in mine, ball raced all round, 2S LiPo, replaced the rear tyres with Proline Dirt Hawgs and stuck on aluminium DF03 shocks. Other than those relatively simple mods / hopups - that's it.

In that respect the re-re Blitzer is just as good as the old one, even stock.

Have to agree with you ratty - only thing I've replaced on my Stadium Thunder is the rear tyres. It's the only car I let the kids and their mates drive without worrying - it's about as close to bulletproof as you can get for a Tamiya.

I also don't worry too much about the exposed tub - although it does fill with sand and dirt easily, it comes out easily enough too.

The bumpsteer thing is partially easy... Swap the left and right stub axles so the tie rods hook up under the steering arm, not on top and run at a similar angle to the arms... But, when you steer the rod end fouls on the edge of the suspension arm. I am going to see how much material has to be removed to obtain enough clearance.

BMT let us know how that gos plz , i had that prblem with std blitzer rims fitted but cured it by fitting traxx slash wheels that give the required clearance when you flip the stub axels . T

Doesn't matter what it looks like or that it doesn't have it's issues sorted. I'm getting 2 more plus some new decals sets for the original that I have.

Best beach buggy ever and it just looks so right at home on sand.

Long fly the Blitzer!!!
