I just recieved my SR 2011 from ModelsportUK today, along with 17 and 19 tooth pinions for 540 motor, and 2 of each, so i can fit similar piniond to both this and my HB 2010..

The HB is already narrowed down, and runs Buggy Champ wheels, and the SR will be narrowed already at the initial build, and i have a lovely set of original new rims and rubbers ready for it, but perhaps, i´ll just fit another set of BC-wheels on it, at least for running.... :D

Just waiting for my PS12 orange and primer sprays to arrive from Germany, so i can start the build..

Unfortunately, i will get delayed, as i am going to be admitted to the hospital on monday, for back surgery. (Again, sigh...)..

Anyway, my son really loves running the HB, so i guess we will have some fun races with the 2 "old-Skool" buggies, on our backyard-track, :D

Cheers..

Michael

Has anyone seen/taken much notice of the magazine ad for the SR? for some reason they've motion-blurred the wheels (poorly) ;)

Pretty sure the ad's on the back of the current Racer mag (UK)

Looks good!

Finished the exhaust

Very Cool .. i am going paint my shock towers same colour as body

will have post what it looks like so far lol

where did the exhaust come from ? and how u fix it to the car ?

Exhaust i belive is from a re-re Sand Scorcher brought from E-bay. Made a top fixing as shown..

SL274086.jpg

and extended the pipes on one side and bent the pipe into meet up with a spare fixing hole on the gear case with a bit of threaded rod in then slides into the pipe to hold it all secure.

Well, my paint from Germany has not yet arrived as the seller had forgotten to ship it out.

Anyway, i put mine together, narrowed the front and rear track, and added Sand Blasters all the way around, (915´a rear and Steves 315´s up front), on Buggy Champ wheels, as i don´t like the Carson wheels at all.. They are poor looking and runs evenly poor in my opinion (i have 2 sets of them).. Don´t like low profile tires on an old buggy or car for that matter. ;)

Anyway, the stance of the body versus the chassis looks so ridicoulous in my opinion, that i won´t even waste paint on it when the paint arrives..

It is by far the worst looking re-re i have seen yet, and i am very disappointed.. The way the shell sits so far back, coz it has to clear the gearbox is just plain bad as I see it, so no woo-hoo´s about it from here..

In my opinion, this is much worse looking than the HB 2010, which was, let´s face it, no beauty compared to the original one.. :(

Still, they both probably makes fun runners, which is the primary goal i guess, so they have a reason "to be living" after all. :)

Cheers..

I think it's quite nice, even if they did punch holes in the body.

It's not as bad as you make it out, especially the new one 58522 with the big truck wheels is nice looking.

That's interesting, one of my Carsons is also wobbly regardless of which bearings I use or which axle I run it on. But then, one of my Brat wheels is also oscillating around no matter how many times I re-build it, but I figured I'm not going down the motorway on it, so...

The Carson wheels really suit the Holiday Buggy, IMHO, even with the wider track. Can't envisage it with the Sand Rover, which I think has more fundamental visual issues than just the type of wheel...!

Great build, I bought the Holiday buggy but this looks suck much cooler - are the body mounts exactly the same as I would like to get just the body if thats the case

I am pretty sure both types of mounts are in both kits, so just go ahead and get a SR shell for your HB. :)

i dun have the manual nw... but i dun remember having the mount for SR in the HB...need to chk if u need to know :)

Thats my Holiday Buggy and the track on it isn't stock it has been narrowed. I do agree that the wheels dont look right on an SR, I fitted my old SR shell to a rere HB shell just before announcement of the rere SR.. I went with lowered front shocks (like on my HB), much lower rear damper mount and touring car length shocks. Its still a project at the moment but is looking ok so far I think.

Wow Biggus! That looks pretty cool with that low ground clearance!.

How did you attach the, what i believe to be a SRB rear cage, onto the chassis? Also, those exhausts looks spot on!.. :o

I see you also went with exactly the same tyrewheel combo on yours. ;) Tall sidewalls ARE the only proper kind of tyre on these old looking things..

Perhaps i should try to replicate the "Puma" buggy used by Terence Hill and Bud Spencer in an old movie, which name i can´t remember, but a song from the movie is "Dune Buggy" by Oliver Onions.. (Funny name, lol). :o

@BiggusDitchus: Your Sand Rover is looking good! I would like to know what kind of front bumper that is? Where did you got it from?

Cheers.

@andy_t: The same goes for your Holiday Buggy. :o And, is that a vintage rear bumper?

Greg the front bumper is one from Radshape (tc member) and was designed for a Wild One, FAV etc. I can answer the other question as the pic Andy uses is of my Holiday Buggy and yes its the bumper off of an original Holiday Buggy.

@gozone, thanks michael the rear cage is remains of a broken SRB cage the upper legs are shortened.

It is mounted by bolting to a plastic mount thats screwed to bottom of chassis (mine is a cut down stock driveshaft)

img280_14112011224521_4.jpg

The upper mount is just attached on one side, just to stop it pivoting backwards, I drilled and tapped into the left side leg and then used some threaded bar and spacers I had, it isnt pretty but its under the shell and it does the job.

img280_14112011224521_5.jpg

In this photo you can see where the cage is bolted to the shock tower I made from carbon fibre.

Thanks for the pics and info, Biggus..

I am pretty sure i have both a broken rear cage and a Holiday rear bumper kickin´about somewhere, so both my HB 2010 and SR 2011 can be treated with some "hop-ups", lol. ;)

Just gave the SR 2011 it´s first outing earlier, and i have to admit, it is VERY funny to drive!! I use a 540 motor with a 17 t Ansmann pinion, along with the 915´s rear and 315´s front, and it really runs MUCH better than anticipated. :o I even use the kit-supplied pogo-sticks for the suspension, making it very bouncy and fun, but still more controllable than a Grasshopper, must be due to the independant rear suspension versus the GH´s live axle setup. :o

Anyway, thanks for sharing the pics and explanation. :P

Cheers
