Hello,

is there a way to determine if a battery pack is fully charged or needs re-charging using a multimeter?

For example in a 7.2 Ni-Mh pack wich is the voltage that shows that the pack needs re-charging?

Also is the voltage enough or there is a way to measure the amps?

Thank you.

The only way i`ve found is to actually stick the said pack on charge. Your voltmeter will only read the nominal voltage unloaded as when you charge it your charger determines wether it needs charging by a set of parameters you select. You can usually see by looking at your charge voltage when charging.

For a 7.2V pack. Off load using a voltmeter, a flat pack will read around 7.2V. A fully charged 7.2V pack should read around 8.4 Volts.

1.2V cells will charge to around 1.4V, thus 6 cells x 1.4V = 8.4V.
