I managed to find a set of hard-cased stick-pack LiPo batteries and compatible charger the other day but they came with Deans Connectors which i haven't used before. All my chassis' run E/MSC's with Tamiya plastic connectors so would need to be changed. Is it worth swapping to Deans Connectors on the cars i'm planning on running LiPos with rather than swapping the ones on the batteries to Tamiya?

I switched at one time to all Deans. I love them. They are easy to solder, and they make a secure connection, and are much smaller than the "Tamiya" plugs.

Plus they flow more current and they're not very expensive!

Go for it.

Cheers,

Skottman

I'll do it then B)

You might find tamiya plugs overheating with lipo power and hot motors, deans are much better - but if you have a lot of cars you could make a deans to tamiya converter for those with less powerful motors/occasional runners - just be careful to get the polarity right!

This is what I did with mine, although admittedly only running on NimH. No melting issues with running a 10.8V pack on a 4000Kv brushless motor though.

I switched to Deans plugs years ago . From the very day that my Tamiya plugs melted, with a 15d motor fitted to my Grasshopper. I had to cut the battery wires from the Esc to get it out. Never looked back since

I actually plumped for some XT60 connectors to run all my stuff in the end; the Turnigy Accucel came with one anyway. Will see how they go, not sure if anyone else runs them but happy to report back.

I just can't fathom how Tamiya plugs can be the standard for anything any longer.

Obviously deans aren't perfect, but they're pretty good.

I switched to deans last year because my LSH are selling mainly battery packs with deans..

I have never had any trouble with the Tamiya connectors melting and I have not gaining more run time with deans, but the packs are prob putting out more power now, hence no extra run time..

I'm running everything from 4800kv bruchless to 65t lathe in my cars...

:o Can't go wrong with Deans connectors i been using them for ever... all my rc's have deans!!

My god that is quite a collection!

Can I ask everyones opinions on using 4mm Banana plugs / Corrally Tubes? I am buying some Reedy Lipo's at the moment and they come with 4mm connectrs and my LHS has recommended that I also use these for connecting the ESC to the motor. what do you all think?

Banana connectors are great also.

Decision made - switching to deans on all the cars that will be running lipo, the rest will stay as they are and I'll make a deans to tamiya connector just incase.

Thanks for the advice, as always on here if you ask a question you get an answer :)
