Guys, we know these all shared the same chassis:-

58087: Manta Ray

58160: Dirt Thrasher

58204: Blazing Star

But wondering what are the exact differences between them (other than body/tyres/wheels)... pure trivia for the nitpickers.

Thanks!!

Terra Conqueror is not in question, Bibbo. [;)] In that case, we should not forget about the Top Force and Top Force Evo as well... [;)]

Not much of help on answering the actual question though, I won't score many points in this quiz... I think Miramar will be a better contestant than me on this one! [:D] [8)] LOL

Ah, but the Top-Forces came with carboc chassis so you could discount them along with all other TA01's etc.

The Terra Conqueror has a plastic chassis and is VERY close to all the cars mentioned. It is just a bit hopped-up.

[:D]Plus I know all about them because I have one!!...LOL[:D]

Except for the obvious differences you mention Willy (as you probably know, the Manta Ray and Dirt Thrasher have the same wheels and tires), the only differences I know of between the Manta Ray and the Dirt Thrasher are newer type plastic bearings in the Dirt Thrasher. Also, as the two (forward) 3x10mm self tapping screws that bolt the MSC/MSC servo plate to the bathtub sometimes used to strip the threads in the Manta Ray, 3x15mm screws are used in this place in the Dirt Thrasher. The "rear" screws remained the same.

As far as I know the Blazing Star is identical to the Dirt Thrasher, except for tires, wheels, body and decals. For the records, the Terra Conqueror body was recycled for the Blazing Star.

Talking about the DF01 series, I think the Terra Conqueror is really the best value for money of all. Of course the Evo is the top of the line, but it was severely overprized, and many of the hop-ups didn't really make a difference, whereas only sensible hop-ups are included in the Terra Conqueror. The bathtub tends to fry batteries though as it's honycomb pattern and basic layout makes for "good" isolation.

What about the Terra Conqueror?

Haha, yes I omitted the T-Conqueror, the Top Force and TF-Evo variants mainly because of their plate chassis. Ditto the 2 XB DF01 Neo TF and Super MantaRay and they have different tubs.

Mainly wondering how hard would it be to make a Blazing Star into a Manta Ray. One found its way into the garage unintentionally last week, obtaining new red parts might be a pain though.

Can I ask what u mean by new red parts?? To my knowledge the only red parts on a Manta Ray was the front Knuckles. Are there any more red bits on the ray? [?][?], if U want a Manta Ray I will kindly sell u one.lol. [;)][:D]. Again to my knowledge all 3 cars were the same apart from bodies, wings, instructions, boxes, wheels and tires. And thats about it.

Thanx

Is it? [?]

Hmm... long time since I saw under a MantaRay shell. Thought it had some red bits like the rest of the TA01 sedans. Blazing Star is completely black apart from the HS2 knuckles too.

My bad.

No the Manta Ray is all black apart from the front knuckles, as are the other 2 cars.

and for the record, both red and black gearboxes are easily available.

You're right, but it should maybe be pointed out that the gearbox parts trees are different (the shocktowers) for TA01/02 and the buggies (DF01). Accordingly, the red parts were never available as DF01 parts, and the black TA01/02 parts were offered with the Hummer and the TA02Racing Special only, and have always been difficult to get as spare parts. All parts except for the shock towers are interchangeable though.

For the records, Tamiya offered the TA01/02 parts in white dyable plastic at approx. the time the TA02 was launched, but I never got my hands on them. [V]

Also, the Taisan Starcard Porsche got these parts in silver.
