meh it's an odd orphan "1/7th" size... don't 1/8th onroads already do 100mph ?

Wonder howany they'll sell @ $1099 B(

New TQi looks good though, neat iPhone holder :(

The 100mph is currently unlocked via the iPhone app - no i device no 100mph :(

*Unlock the 100+mph speed only with the Traxxas Link App.

Unlocking 100+mph speed capability requires the Traxxas Link Application (download from the App Store) and an iPhone or iPod touch (sold separately). iPhone and iPod touch are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

Well, i'm a little disappointed by this release. I thought Traxxas would come out with a class 1 buggy to compete with losi, hpi, axial and kyosho, or with a new scale crawler...This car it's too exclusive, need a lot of space to run, need a lot of money to buy one and even more money to reach the 100mph ( if you don't have an i-phone). And anyway, is it so neecessary to reach 100mph with an rc car??? What's the aim, after i reach 100mph do i feel satisfied? :(

Anyway, that's just my idea! B)

Impressive. Certainly raises the game with all the telemetry stuff, although I guess it largely a gimmick.

Looks like a fair amount of thought has gone into the car overall. I like it. Although I like to build my own.

Why and where would you want to go 100mph in a scale car ??

whatever you hit will mean complete destruction of the car, and if you are unlucky to hit someone then likely to be a completely shattered foot/ankle/leg - rather irresponsible of Traxxas. Speed is nothing without control, and i doubt they'll ask driver skills and intended use when they sell one .

I must admit I looked at it and thought "Interesting, but what's the point?"

There are plenty of youtube videos of '100mph RC something or other' so I suppose Traxxas think there's a market that they can exploit.

Yep, people will buy the most powerful. Look at the current 1000cc sports bike market. They are all too much to use fully unless on the track, yet the fastest one will always sell well.

My thoughts exactly. Wouldn't go so far as call it irresponsible, but I do think it's a bit daft.

Doesn't look like it's going to handle very well.

Also looks cheap.

Reminds me of the Kyosho Corvette of the 80s, and the MRC odd scale thingys from the 90s.

Low-budget manufacture with a high budget sales price and won't handle all that well. = what a rip off.

I think the price means its only likely to be used be a real enthusiast, as opposed to a reckless kid.

In current times but when credit becomes available more readily i can see plenty of people committing to one. Every time i go into one of my LHS it seems to be full of jobless 20 -25 yr olds wanting free repairs to their super hot nitro cars (and i mean fully hopped up, biggest engine possible etc etc).

I'll look forward to seeing the mayhem unfold on you-tube then.

Oh yeah, and the reason why they have to make it 1/7th scale, is of course because there already exists a mass of 1/8th scale vehicles.

If you sell something in a class which nobody else makes, there's no price pressure. You can charge whatever you like, because there's no competition.

Imagine if Peugeot or Tata made the only cars on the planet.

Indian manufacturer Tata could charge whatever they wanted for their lethal coffin-mobiles, and people wouldn't know how much a proper vehicle should cost, as there'd be nothing to compare it to.

It might not become their top seller, but like many top of the range models (of a certain type) of a manufacturer, it sets Traxxas apart from the other manufacturers and shows what their cars are all about: Combining speed with durability and convenience - and if you ask me, they're trying out whether connecting the RC world with other popular 'new' developments attracts people to their products.

Anyway, I think they succesfully set out what they set to do: They have caught the attention of the hobbyist and emade a car many newcomers to the hobby would dream of. After all, many people's first question about your car when they see it is 'How fast does it go?' - Traxxas know all too well that whereas people want speed, they don't want to mod the *!&@ out of a car before reaching those speeds, and they don't want to maintain their cars either. They all got that covered, and by adding this to their lineup they are sure to turn their attention to them at any hobby store.

That said, I wouldn't buy one. It's not that bad a price, but I really think it's nonsense to only make the telemetry compatible with Apple products. I know there are plenty of reasons for Traxxas to do it, but it's still a bad move imo. I do love the flat chassis bottom, the diffuser and the built in cooling vent they made :)

It'll go 100mph without an iphone- just drop it off a really high bridge. Heck, it'll do 100 in the box that way!

Yawn. Next.

Except there exists the option of just buying a 100mph 1/8 vehicle with the price pressure and less likely-hood of numbers being pulled out of the manufacturer's rear.

Exactly my point!

It would interesting to know how many people who buy this car will take it out onto a suburban street on their first outing with it and drive it at full throttle into a kerb. I bet it fragments into about 100 different pieces fairly spectacularly driven at top speed into something solid, that would probably be worth seeing. <_<

Jang's got stuff to say about it here

He sort of weaves in and out of making sense and contradicts himself. For instance, the need for an iPhone to unlock the top speed may be a gate for people not willing to purchase an iPhone, but it absolutely isn't a gate against people who shouldn't be behind the wheel of such a powerful RC (My 11yr old niece has an iPhone for example - as do most of the high school students on the subway in the morning.)

Cool that it can be done, but ... yikes.

Where in the world would you run it???? It would take a dedicated track and you aren't going to give that a quick blast down the street out front!

Still, quite impressive though.
