Hi There,

I am overhauling a vintage sand scorcher, it needs new ball plates so I ordered these RE-release ones Part no: 10005038

But they don't seem to fit into the arms at all. Does anybody produce the ball plates for the vintage sand scorcher? Or do I have to buy new arms and new balls from a release kit?

I've come across this myself . The re re user's 5 mm ball joints . Unless you can get hold of the vintage parts you'll have to change the 4mm balls to make them work . No need to change the whole arm just replace the ball fitting .

Thanks for the reply. But the overall diameter of the re re ball plates are much bigger than on the orginals, they dont actually fit into recess on the arms.

Late model/re-release arms will fit on the early model arm shafts. Or surf eBay under tamiya sand scorcher for vintage ball plates.

I have seen them come up on the for sale section on the home page from time to time, just got to keep an eye out! I do remember reading on the forums that some one was using some sort of 2 part moulding putty ( plastic based) that once set worked just like the original ball plates. Sorry I have run a search but couldnot find the forum page!

Have fun with your resto, Shaun

Muliput would do the job but i'd be concerned abouts its impact and wear resistance . If it was me i'd not be a purist and fit re release items , at least till i could source vintage ones .

I saw a thread about using 'poly-morph' plastic ball beads .They are melted with heat and pressed into the arm over the ball , once cured /cooled it was drilled for the screw to go in

I had the same problem and i bought SRB 2010 ball races (which are bigger) and also 5mm ball joints. I drilled bigger and and a bit conical the original SRB arms so they can fit the new racers, and here you are. Its is avery simple and quick modification.
