Fox Collection

Recommended Posts

Hey Hey

Just thought id add to the ever increasing popularity of the Fox

Have 3 of them and 100's of spares that i have horded over the years. My current Runner ive had since new in 1988 and stopped driving it in 1993 when I moved from Tas to Sydney.

I have a tidy shelfer and a backup spare runner if needed on the day for Vintage racing or if someone wants to borrow it at the track.

The Red one ive added adjustable rear camber and drilled out alot of the excess bulk plastic, and to this day is still holding together.

Its running a Magic Johnson Speedworks motor, which was the shizzz back in the day, its brushed obviously, running LiPo and Tamiya 104 ESC, which they say is not meant to handle anything lower than 25 turn, but i still give it a thrashing with that Speedworks Motor. Which leads to an interesting question.

****I have managed to put a metal gear in my Runner back in the day from maybe a Kyosho ?? I dont know, but it rings a bell. I have added pictures below so you can maybe tell me what it could be from as Id like to get another one for the backup car. ****

Next on the list for this one is some Trinity 2.0 rims and Losi Step tyres for the rear, and will put the same tyres as my Shelfer has on the front for a bit more grip at our track instead of the hard block style tyres.

The Shelfer is standard as possible, everything is shiny new including the alloy wheels which i had to have made up as the Ebay sellers had sold out. Painted the body in Metallic Blue from a VHT can which turned out trick, with the Flecks of Metallic shining in the sun when it hits the paint. Still has the old Metal Plate Speedy and stock 540 motor.

The backup car is running Assocated receiver and Trigger and has an old school Lemans 600E 30Turn, nothing special really about this one, just its still going strong.

Cheers

A few more pics now that the new front tyres have arrived and the sway bar fitted.

Cleaned up the under carriage too. Scratch free!

Also could be selling it soon, so will be taking offers shortly if people are interested.

Very, very nice, did you polish the under carriage, or install new parts? Do I need another fox? :)

Just got my new Hot Trick lower rear arms and they fit dam fine!

Now that the shocks are leaning over a bit more now, the standard Tamiya CVA's are way to stiff.

Will have to invest in some after market ones that give a nicer feel, as currently its stiff as a board in any position on shock tower. Arms move freely when shocks are off just incase you think of that.

What shocks have you guys who have modded the rear end use?

Do you have the bushes in the shock ends , where you bolt the shocks to the top & bottom ?.

As i don't see spacing in between the screws , But that can be the pic's . I think it's a 5 or 6 mil bush .

Where did you get the arm's from ? . thanks .

The brass collar that goes through the shock holes?? Yeah they are there, top and bottom.

Had to head to US to get the arms, no one here has them.

Nice foxes! I like all three of them, one pristine stocker, one highly modded, and one slightly tuned.

I would be interested to know the weight difference between the stock and the modded one!

I now believe Australia has the highest percentage of Tamiya foxes in the world! You guys love em!

Nice ute too, 460?

Yeah im always scouring the US EBAY for Foxes in top condition, and guys who have numerous spares. The show-condition Fox was in excellent condition when i got it, have replaced all scratched parts underneath, and added the wheels and swaybar and new body.

The modded Fox Ive had since new, and its still racing these days in Vintage. I just need better rear shocks and ill be happy with it. I will weigh them tonight after work and let you know!

The UTE is Cleveland 393, 550hp! EXPENSIVE hobby.... thats why I went back to RC, nowhere near as expensive in contrast even though alot of small things are bought, still doesnt add up to one part on the UTE!

Ok, just weighed them both. The results:

Red Fox runner with NiMH battery, 1650g

Blue Fox show piece with NiMH battery, 1814g

So I have shed over 160g!

- Have added AE B4.1 RTR shocks to the rear of my Fox Runner.... very good combo, now that the Hot Trick Arms spread the shocks out further.

This has helped immensely, as the CVA Tamiya shocks just couldnt do the job. Had to put 5mm limiters inside the shocks to stop them dropping too low, where my dogbones were popping out. All sweet now, just need this rain to stop, so I can go take it for a run!
