That sounds like a great Mk2, its a flat front I am after but arched up with Tarmac or Forest arches, not so keen on the X-packs but they are very old skool I guess.....IDF carbs are pretty rare, very nice and lucky at 19 to have a car like that! Shame you didn't keep it, very sought after cars these days. You can do a reg search on the DVLA website to see if it is still alive.....

Cheers

Dave

flat front with quarter bumpers bumpers and a mexico front spoiler ...... and the killer was the 1.3 badges................... i worked 7 days a week working at amain dealer during the week then all my neighbours cars on the week end ...... no rest for me ....4 spoke polished RS wheels with a massive 185/60/13 tyre ........... EKKKKKK ...... car was advertised as 1600 sport with RS running gear..... cough cough ....... . when i checked it over it had anti trap bars reinforced strut tops and RS clocks n dash board in it ...... . bought it with a missfire for 900 quid ....... ........ didnt tell the bloke that the missfire was just some of the inlet maifold gasket missing .............. RESULT !!!

I like your approach to the chassis keeping the everything as it should be. Front engine, RWD and the "fuel tank" in the boot.

I am working on a similar thing with a mark 2 shell and a narrowed DT02 holiday buggy chassis.

I haven't done much though yet..

Hey thanks for the interest! It's coming along slowly...only issue I'm trying to resolve is the braking! Braking really sucks! It's like trying to stop using the hand brake /parking brake...lol!

Considering changing to an ESC with drag brake but I haven't used one of these before, so if anyone with experience with them can let me know if this will solve the braking issue, I will appreciate this much!

Drag braking of a brushless system is there to simulate the magnetic lop that you get with brushed motors. With the drag brake disabled on a brushless system, the only 'drag' in the driveline is the friction of the gears, much the same as a nitro model.

On the 1:5th scale 2WD buggys you can fit cable front disc brakes and channel mix with the throttle/brake servo to control the front brakes. You could be able to replicate this in 1:10th scale for better stopping power.

Wow! Thanks for the super fast response! I wasn't aware that there were front disc brakes for rc systems (even if its 1/5)! Do you have a link or can you tell me which vehicle in particular uses this system?

Baja 5B/5T 1:5th scale. Like these. I'm pretty sure the FG type 1:5th touring cars use a similar setup, but had nothing to do with onroad 1:5th scale myself so can't be sure.

Good luck with the build. Didn't realise that the proper escorts where global, and spouting bug catchers :D , Shame ford had to ruin it and go wrong wheel drive!

Your project is so good. Everything is so authentic.

I have built a rwd chassis for my escort shell, so if I like it, I might pursue the front brake solution as I can see rear only brakes being rubbish.

Can you not feed the brake servo and esc from the same channel, using a Y lead? I guess you would have to build in room to allow the brake servo to move forwards also.

How did you make the bumpers and spoiler? I have never touched styrene before, but it seems you can do anything with it!

The problem with a Y-harness and combining the ESC and brake servo on the one channel is that the front brakes will still be trying to 'brake' when the ESC has switched mode from brakes to reverse. Reverse line-lock burnouts anyone?

A 3 channel pistol grip with a programmable 3rd channel should be able to combine brakes front and rear (ESC brakes) and reverse as well.

Great job on the build so far! Ingenious use of existing production parts in places they weren't designed for.

A spring in the cable assembly between the cables and servo horn will soften the brake feel quite a bit. Make the brake pressure more progressive instead of just on-off. A bit like what is done on a nitro car's brakes.

Hey thanks Wooders28! I'm originally from the Caribbean (Trinidad) and the MK2 was my first car! They sure don't make them like they used to anymore!

Thanks Butler! I did consider briefly a 3 channel system, but didn't want to muck about with bias settings etc ....! The fact that I would have had to buy a 3 ch system made me decide to just pick up another receiver for my 4ch stick radio that I use with my Globeliner trailer truck! The left stick will be throttle and brake/Reverse mode while the right stick will be steering and the front disc brake.

I'm hoping that the independently activated front brakes will give better control cornering and slides etc. not to mention some decent burnouts!

Hoping to have the body mounted this weekend ( using magnets!) then I can do some testing !!

Hey thanks TA-Mark! Hoping to have some done this weekend and possibly some test vids!

Styrene is pretty easy to use but like everything else there is a learning curve. However, don't let that discourage you ! I have been scratch building stuff for about a year and a half now, start with simple items like boxes coolers etc. to get a feel for it! On e you learn the basics, complex items are possible. You just dissect the item into various shapes that you make and then glue it all together. Lots of shaping with files and sanding with sand paper !

Some test vid...! Nothing spectacular though......

Raw video as I still need to figure out how to edit video on the iPAD!

Hope this works! Heh! Still trying to get used to the stick radio with front brakes on the right stick together with the steering!.
