The mighty Escort

Recommended Posts

Tamiya have released many of the great rally cars over the years including the Escort Cosworth, but I wonder why they have never released a Mark 1 or 2 Escort. Probably the most successful and most iconic rally cars of all time?

Bet the kit would sell like hot cakes? 8-)

But they have never released a Datsun 1600 or TE27 Levin, two iconic rally cars of their homeland.

Tamiya is pretty good at missing the point.

It would be nice to see Tamiya produce an old Escort, these cars defiantly deserve the 'Big T' treatment, but I don't think it will ever happen :D

Retro Racing bodies are made out of PETG instead of lexan. The problem comes because people use paint designed for polycarbonate bodies instead of ordinary acrylics. That's what makes the bodies brittle; they don't start off like that.

That said, the sides of the bodies are quite thin and prone to tearing at the edges if you're not careful.

Kamtec.co.uk

They also do repro shells and loads of shells for mardave chassis, in lexan, and abs, most of the cars you guys have mentioned are on there!

I had seen them , But didn't have the detail like the retro racing . Kamtec also had the MK1 escort van , but it just didn't look right .

Nice kit there, am looking to do a Mk2 build, they say the shells are two piece, does this mean they are made in two parts and joined during manufacture or do you have to join them together yourself....? If you have to join them up whats the best approach ? (I do see the join lines in the photos... ;) )

Here's my original post in case anyone interested... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...p;hl=mk2+escort

Cheers

Dave
