Hi Guys,

I am thinking of making a few scale bodies for sale. The sort of bodies you see other members make that you wish you had but lack the time, or skills, to build. These would be high dollar, high quality limited scale bodies. In hard plastic, not vac formed.

I got the idea after seeing all the scratch built or super highly modified body all the great members have been building for SRB chassis and Scale 4X4 crawlers. I am not looking to copy any original projects from other members, but I am sure there are real life production bodies members would like to own but no one is making. I have contacts in the car industry so I know how to get licenses to enable me to reproduce any real models officially if I can get enough interest.

I would love to hear from all the members here about which bodies they would most love someone to make (with a reference picture if possible). Please let your imagination run wild <_<

Here are some examples from my wish list:

Bronco Big Oly replica for CC01 chassis

Mk1 Funco buggy for SRB chassis

Funco20279202.jpg

Mk2 Funco buggy for SRB Chassis (a lot of members have been doing their versions of this - I want one too)

getuserimageasp.jpg

Toyota Tacoma for CC01 or Hilift chassis

Toyota-Tacoma-trucks-wallpaper.jpg

1998 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for CC01 - Tamiya's version is good, but all Jeeps should have round lights ;)

My first thought, before scrolling down the opening post was the Bronco body, followed by the Funco.

The Bronco would probably be a good option as good used Blazer parts are expensive, so scope for reasonable sales opportunities as runner bodies if not display and should easily recoup the development / production costs.

The funco champ has been attempted quite a few times, but i'm not sure there is that much interest that people would pay double ? (or more ?) the price of a buggy champ body just to have something that would only be noticeably different to those in the know. Ditto with other on road bodies - is there really that much sales potential. I'm not sure how much trade delta pastik get with their bodies (some quite bespoke bodies on their site) - their prices look good at first glance but the 35 euro shipping just makes them £50-60 hard shell bodies which too me are not worth the cost. Somethign more in line of the Super Champ might worth looking at, there's at least 5 people on this forum looking for bodies.

Love the idea of a flip front for a SS body, I'd rather have something to be creative with that just a standard body that is ready to be painted!

And when there is a very detailed body sat there anyway from Tamiya, why try and replicate it?

I think a nice kit to do to start off with would be a full baja kit, like you'd buy for a full size VW.

Flip front, matching rear fenders to bond on, and a rear engine lid in the more common bulge style.

The Funco bodies would be ace, simple and no real detail, perfect start to see how things go!

Good luck with whatever you decide...

I'm getting the impression that you're leaning towards off-road vehicles, with the exclusively Baja-themed stuff you posted as examples... Maybe this is better directed at the scaler communities?

and what kind of licensing are we talking about here? Perhaps I'm way off, but wouldn't you need to produce and sell large batches to cover such an expense?

Not trying to be overly critical, but I feel like I've heard this proposal a few times before. Sure I'd love to see one of these in polystyrene:

... but how to pony up the money to pay FERRARI for the privilege of using a design that they themselves would like to bury?

Oh, and +1 for the Miura; I would sell a body part to have one of these injection-moulded!

I must agree with OCD. Ive been looking forward to a Lancia Stratos from Tamiya on any SWB chassis they can muster. I had hoped it would materialize after they re-re the 037 and then the Delta but it never happened.

A Tamiya Stratos (not in Alitalia form) would be sweet. Any Stratos for that matter, Im not greedy.

HPI makes one that fits on the Cup Racer chassis. Although it's lexan, you can still paint it up how you like. I made a metallic green one myself...

Toykid

Do you have an idea of what it costs to make the molds for a detailed hard plastic body with lights etc...?

I do, It's over $30k

Hi,

I personally run a lot of my vintage RCs and and would love to see someone who has the knowledge and technology to reproduce a Super Champ Body of sorts. I currently have two super Champs that need bodies. So I think a lot of us would really like to see that happen. If you are going to spend the money to create these bodies why not repop a body that a lot of us really use. Just my two cents.

and this:

to fit over SRB suspension pieces.

And there are literally a dozen bodies I wish were available in Lexan to fit on M-chassis: Lancia Fulvia, VW Scirocco, Chevy Corvair...

Thanks for the response so far guys. Good to see plenty of on road examples too. Clearly I have my bias towards Baja type cars so it is good to see favorites of others.

Katan, thanks, yes I work in the toy industry (hence toykid :) ) so I have a very good knowledge of tooling cost and all other associated cost to bring a product to market for this sort of stuff. OCD, there are many types of licenses you can be granted and not all involve high volumes or large minimum guarantee.

Keep the ideas coming guys.

Oh, In that case if you are going to do this then my suggestion is do a body for the High Lift chassis (287mm wheel base, 190 wide) and give it the same level of detail as the Hilux (lights etc...).

I work in the RC industry.

I would like a 1:8 ansd 1:10 scale Meyers Manx Body without Damper recesses or with ugly shape such as the Parma ones from Lexan for the slash.

Just like that:

...and a good looking VW engine with cut outs so it can be pushed further in to the gearbox for the SRB's

Toyota Landcruiser trayback to fit High Lift chassis in styrene.

Or this:

Why Tamiya hasn't does this, yet has done the lesser Hi-Lux still has me puzzled.

Long wheelbase 7 Seater wagon version of the Pajero on CC01

Like this:

You can make this from two SWB bodies and some extra styrene, but it's a painful process and not very strong.

All with detailed interiors and clear windows. Also a good one would be styrene interiors and clear windows for existing bodies that otherwise don't have anything or just have dark tinted windows.

Thats a fantastic idea! I am in with the Funco bodies!

My special wish would be a M1 Procar for either the 1/12 Celica LB Turbo Chassis, or modern 1/10 4WD chassis.

And a BMW 3,0 CSL Race car for same chassis as the M1.
