Just got myself The Frog and became aware of the three spur and pinion gears included in the kit. The manual says they're for normal speed, high speed and torque respectively.

I think I'll be opting for high speed, but do anyone here have any recommendations or considerations to share?

All I can tell you is I set mine up "normal" and it gave a top speed that matched a stock Hornet I was running against.

Really depends on the motor you are running, and if you're running on wide open flat areas, or on tighter twisty tracks. The high speed gear will give the highest top speed, but the worst acceleration and least run time (although run time isn't so much an issue with modern high capacity batteries and quick chargers).

19T x 49T = 6.7 : 1 = high speed (flat road), less acceleration, quick battery discharge

18T x 50T = 7.3 : 1 ratio = normal, balanced acceleration and battery discharge

16T x 52T = 8.5 : 1 = low speed (rough road), best acceleration, best battery discharge

Any of these gears are fine with the kit motor and ESC. However, the higher speed gears increase the current pulled by the motor. Some modified motors may overheat (although the car is pretty light and 2WD), or the TEU101BK ESC may cut out if you use the high speed gear with a modified motor.

Thanks for the replies! I built the gearbox for high speed last evening. Will try that and probably the other configurations in the future!
