Evening all!

Been a lurker here for a while and as I'm about to build my first kit, I thought it only right that I joined so that I can pester the **** out of you all, when I get stuck! :D

Was never able to afford rc things when I was a kid (is that violins I can hear?) but always drooled over my friends Hornet.

Some 15+ years later and I think I'm getting the bug. Had an HPI Savage for a couple of years, but found the Nitro thing to be a pain in the neck (Although, I've got to say, it's a great truck that is pretty indestructible). Then bought a TA01 Cossie from a member on here. A lovely example, but I'm too scared to use it properly, as it's too nice. So they've both gone on 'The Bay' to fund something I can build and bash without worrying about it.

Just waiting for the arrival of this...

Many questions to follow when it gets here...

Thanks

Mark

Get a steel pinion ordered. Tamiya ones are butter soft and need to be replaced asap

Thank you, peeps!

Cheers for the info, bromvw.

I've got a steel pinion attached to a 9 turn EZrun brushless motor, that may or may not go in there. I think it's a 19t or a 21t. Would that suit?

Welcome Mark - fantastic deal on the Swift !

Hi Percymon,

I thought so! I'd seen them for as much as £140. I was just about to go to Stella Models and risk the customs charges, then remembered the 'Time Tunnel' link on the forum.

This was of course after spending days looking through all the other chassis options and trying to justify to myself purchasing a CR-01 Unimog. By Sunday morning I'd convinced myself I was getting the Monte Carlo Mini....until I saw the Swift with the 'Rally' options. Game over! :D

Well, it's here and I've started!

Why oh why, are all the bits for the same sections in different bags??? 'Take 2 8mm screws from bag A and use them to connect the small plastic bit from F14 to the large plastic bit from C12. Not forgetting to hold the slippery metal bit from bag B with your third hand.'.

And there was me thinking I'd get my first Tamiya kit built in one night... ;0)

give you a tip . get some plastic tubs . sort each set of parts for each build stage into the tubs before starting . makes life a lot less frustrating :)

Or 'borrow' the missus's cup cake baking trays or individual cup cake moulds/ramakins work a treat! hehe!

just dont give them back with thread lock in other wise not very nice poisonous cakes lol!

The stock motor is usually fine in the "M" series and the Sport Tuned is about the limit for my tastes. Much more and you just roast the front tires off in no time. With a 19t motor you will be buying tires by the case lot. :)

Welcome aboard!

Another thing is while you may get away with not gluing the tires with the silver can, once you move up to even a Sport Tuned, you'll find that your runs consist mostly of stretching the tires back over the rims after every sharp corner.

You mean I've got to buy something else to put the brushless in??? :)

Would you mind phoning my wife and letting her know... ;)

Whale oil beef hooked!

Just the body work and a couple of guards to go and she'll be finished.

I completely ignored  the 'silver can will be fine for M series...' and stuck the 9 turn brushless motor in there with a 19 tooth pinion.

Bejesus does it shift (well, for the 10ft in the living room it did anyway).

Go big or go home!

Drive it like you stole it!

Etc etc...

Well that was easy! :)

Well, apart from putting the decals on. What a little ****** of a job that is!!! I managed to mess up a couple of them beyond repair, but the car doesn't look any worse for not having them on.

It's not concours condition, but I'm well chuffed for my first effort.

I'l post some pics up tomorrow for some constructive <_< feedback.

Now just trying to justify a CC01 Unimog purchase to myself...

Well here it is!

Anybody got any tips for getting the arches more rounded? I tried with scissors, craft knife and curved nail scissors, but it just felt like I was hacking away!!! Is it something that comes with practise?

And what would people recommend to use to cut the body posts?

Decals need not be a pain. Use a couple drops of dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water. Dip the decal in after removing the backing material. You'll be able to slide the decal around on the body (don't press down, just let it float) until you get it where you want, then squeeze out the water. You can keep re-dipping the decal in the bowl if it starts to get tack before you find the perfect spot for it. For large decals this is a life saver!

Looks very nice. I fancy one now. :)

As for the arches they look ok. I sand them down once I've cut them out to get a nice smooth edge. Ohh and get some curved scissors they make cutting curves much easier.

That's a great idea. Thank you.

I'll do that for the CC01 Unimog I've just ordered... ;)
