Hello guys

This is my last restoration, a Yankee 84x2 Competition. This car was produced in 1984 by Yankee, and we have here a very first 1984 model with grey plastics (the plastics have changed to black ones during year 1984). The engine as well is quite remarkable: this is a french ECM engine, discontinued after years 1984/85. This was the first make ditributed by Yankee in these years.

The restoration has mainly consisted in bringing back the plastics to their original color using water peroxyde (in gel), then few parts had to be exchanged or cleaned from the rust (actualy a bit more than that.. you will see below).

The last touch is the body...

Enjoy !

The reference, from a magazine:

The model before restoration, note the plastics have turned yellow :(

The chassis is like new wow !

ygd0096s.jpg

The transmission has been a bit damaged... somebody probably used pliers to

mount/dismount it

Nice chassis again...

Cleaning: using wd40 for the bearings. Mirror to bring back the parts that sould not have

a bright aspect, Belgum for those parts would should have a bright aspect.... I also restore

the screws and bolts... one by one, taking the rust away....

ygd0093s.jpg

Removing of the scratches on the transmission parts: I just put the part in a drill and

use sand paper stuck on a wooden surface to abrase the part and remove the scratches :)

ygd0092s.jpg

Plastics: I put water peroxide all around the pastic parts. The good thing with the gel is that

one can avoid putting gel on the aluminium and metallic parts.

This being done, the parts are rolled in a plastic film and put under the sun.

The combined action of the natural light and the peroxide eliminates the yellow deposit.

ygd0088s.jpg

The residues are then taken out of the parts using a scalpel.. ones has to be very patient there !!! :)

Now it is time to reassemble - look to the difference in color !

The clutch bell is replace by the same model as on the reference pict.

This will make a nice car

one like on the reference picture
