Is it snowing yet?, Who's been out in the snow?

Recommended Posts

Not really been out with my Sand Rover yet but when I saw the weather, I just couldn't resist. I fashioned a make shift waterproof cover from a plastic bag and off I went. :D

Please post your snow videos here, I have done a search and didn't find anything so apologies if a similar thread exists. ;)

I had my Super Clod out in it this morning - had to go fairly slowly otherwise the wheels started to spin up & it dug in to over the top of the tyres :)

No video though :D

I might try and get a better video today, it was dark last night when I did it, I was lucky enough to have a trusty film crew who you can just about hear in the background. :D

It was a simple case of sellotaping a plastic bag around the chassis, didn't take any pics and I have taken it off now, if I go out again today I will do it again and get a pic.

I was only out for a couple of minutes but it seemed to work fine and all the electrics were dry when I removed it. ;)

I'm surprised to see how well the 2WD goes through the snow :)

And to answer your second question, of course I have! Check it out:

Some nice pics there Origineelreclamebord, Is that the TLT? any mods? It looks like it powered through the snow, and your snow looks a lot deeper than what we had here. B)

Thanks  The snow was up to the middle of it's axle on average I think and the snow was pretty powder-like and very loose, so it dug in pretty easily - With a 3200kV brushless system digging in is a certainty, but as long as the tire eventually hit a harder surface (in this case the soil below) it will keep on going B)

The chassis is TLT-based yeah, though by now it has a lot of mods now. The idea was to make a Tamiya based, scale looking Monster Truck with live axles that could fit inside an average sized backpack (the same one I use for school) as I only have a bicycle at my disposal to go to bashing spots. The TLT-1 seemed to be a right base for such a vehicle. Originally it started out with the following mods:

- HPI Wheely King body.

- Longer wheelbase (custom links and lengthened driveshafts).

- Wild Willy 2 tires (Wild Dagger wheels as I found it hard to find WW2 rear wheels).

- Original transmission with locked centre diff.

The chassis was well but I found the centre of gravity to be kind of high up and there were some other issues to be solved, so I made a custom chassis to solve these problems, which includes the use of a Traxxas 1/16 transmission, which is enclosed, compact, uses a slipper and has an optional centre diff available (the last of which I don't use by the way). I nowadays run without the cantilevers in the suspension, which have both considerably improved the performance of the chassis ;) I can highly recommend TLT-1 axles as a base for a rough offroader: So far I've only bent the 4-links and the screws need to be thoroughly checked once in a while, or threadlocked (this includes the screws that close the diff, they came loose on mine due to the brushless power when I hadn't threadlocked them).

I'm waiting for the snow to start flying, forecast is calling for snow in my region. We were up to 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit) not that I'm complaining. Batteries are charging

I had the 4x4x4 Wild Dagger out in the snow a couple of weeks back at the Local country park . What a laugh  . With the oversized tires it coped well - too well at one point . I overdid it and it ended up on the lake edge . Cue the rescue crew - my Doberman . Fetch boy lol .
