Most Popular, Current, Tamiya R/C Car

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gents

I was wondering if you guys & gals can tell me what you think is the most popular tamiya R/C car that is available at the moment from Tamiya. Afterall if anybody knows it must be you guys.

I'm a little out of touch with these things as I have been spending my time restoring wild willys LWB and SWB.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I'd say (based on nothing more than anecdotal evidence) that it's currently some flavour of SRB and soon to be the Bruiser B)

What Sayer said (probably the Sand Scorcher), + the FAV (judging by me not getting one of the first batch despite pre-ordering it), + the Holiday Buggy - really

I'd put my money on Lunchbox, and maybe the Holiday Buggy or Rising Fighter buggy - all at the low price end of the range, but stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap. Everyone loves a Lunchbox, even those people like me who don't own one !

Weekly/Monthly top sellers come and go, but I think historically it would be the Lunchbox. It has been a top seller for ages now.

I think Hornet is the best selling kit in Tamiya's history. Maybe the best selling out of all RC kits ever. Right now the leader might be TT-01 chassis, not very popular here though since its rubbish.

EDIT: But Lunchbox seems to be the model with the most universal appeal here, cheap, fun, simple and good looking

Yeah, Winniez, you may well be right and it could well be the Hornet instead of the VLB. I do think it just about has to be one of these two though.

The TT-01 might have the #1 sold spot vs. the "most popular" spot (and I realize there might be an argument to say most sales = most popular). I think this is due to the huge number of different "models" which really is just a different shell banged onto the same old chassis. Doesn't seem quite right somehow.

This may be nitpicking but ...

There is a difference in my mind between most popular and favorite (shades of the best seller vs. most popular thing B) ).

I think the Hornet or VLB is probably the most popular - seems like everybody either had one, has one, wants one, or knows somebody who fits one of those categories. Kinda like an MG or a VW Beetle I guess.

I have both, BUT neither is my favorite! I like them fine and think everybody should have one to thrash about and have fun with, but it's not the one I'd pick if I could only have one, it's not the one I run the most, and it's not the one that I just can't get enough of. That is a whole different thread. :(

It seems to me that a couple of models, which has had a big boom in appearances on here, since the re-re wave started are the Hotshot and the Fast Ataack Vehicle..

I have just picked up another FAV, even though I haven´t even run my first re-re yet, and concerning the Hotshot.. Well, i have had it out once last winter, but for now, it juts sits on a shelf, next to a re-re Boomerang, which has also only had 1 run, lol.

Actually, i don´t have either a Hornet or a L´Box at the moment, but i have to get a Hornet again sometime.. Not sure i need another L´Box though, as I am not all that impressed with it. And i guess the Wild Willy takes the spot as the #1 stunt car here. :P

:P You Guys are very helpful, Keep your ideas coming in, another question is would you risk buying from hong kong into the UK, i believe its a bit risky and can take weeks. but they are cheaper it seems!!!!!

Always wanted a hot shot maybe in the future!!!!

Anybody know when the bruiser is due for release? and how much they will cost?

Thanks again for your help Guys

From memory we had a debate on here some time ago and a Tamiya employee wouldn't confirm numbers but said something along the lines of "it would be silly not to think it was the highest seller"

and that was in reference to the Clod Buster for the best selling kit ever.

If we were talking soley about re-releases, then yeah I imagine it would be a tough battle between the Hotshot, Hornet, Lunch box and Sand Scorcher, my money would go on the lunchie though.

If you are on about newer releases then I couldn't hazard a guess, I'm not up to play with the current ones. But I would think the M03 mini would be somewhere up there, soley based on it's racing class worldwide.

You could have a look at showroom entry figures, although it doesn't represent a worldwide sales figure, it would give a rough estimate of sorts :)

Neil from Time Tunnel says his best-selling kit, by far, is the Lunchbox. Apparently it was meant to be a limited re-re but it stretches the definition of 'limited' by quite a long way!

It sound like Lunch Box has taken and remains in the lead, I had one some years back but sadly gave it away. May get another, they sell for about 100 quid on ebay.

Thanks to every body who has replied to my post ;)
