Anyone Painted with Tamiya Maroon TS-11?

Recommended Posts

Looking at painting my Monster Beetle in Tamiya Maroon which on the lid looks like a really dark brown.

Im worried that because the body is white plastic it will come out more lighter than i prefer.

Should i paint underneath black first and then paint?

Or paint it 5 coats so it gets darker as I go along?

Anyone got any pics of what they have painted in Tamiya Maroon?

I found this 959 which looks spot on as to the way i want it:

I painted my Clod in it, and yes, it is a sort of raw kidney brown. Not very appealing.

You might be better off experimenting with translucent red over different base colours.

I think what you will need is an "Aubergine" car spray if it is a hard body beetle you have. I like this colour myself and had to find out what it was.

Here is a link to a car forum with a pic of a escort cosworth in "Aubergine" (Its the first pic down).

Clicky

Maroon is the color you are looking for. Please check the Sand Scorcher, Super Champ, or Grasshopper in my showroom.

ok for a hard body use halfords car spray cans . prime first with the primer as recommended for the colour you decide on . I've used this stuff for the last few years and if you look at my Funco /Champ build i think the results speak for themselfs . The other advantage is that you can colour match to the actual car your modeling .

Sorry, no, it was over 20 years ago - before digital cameras - and I soon repainted it metallic green.

Thanks, and yes, the brown colour on these 3 cars is TS11.

Did you paint the sand scorcher with the TS11 over the body or did you use some sort of coloured primer?

I primed the body with Tamiya grey primer, but if I remember correctly, I didn't bother masking the parts that were painted last. What I mean is that the maroon was almost the last color I painted (black was the last), so it was painted over coats of white, yellow and orange; not very professional I know, but it worked.
