How on earth did fleabay item 180817760943 reach over £200? I've seen more complete versions fetch a third of that in the last 24 hours. What's so special about this one?

Only thing interesting about it is the original coil-over hop-ups - maybe someone badly wanted a set.

Sometimes you see freak prices. Good for the seller - just good timing probably.

It looks like it is a MK1 chassis, and some people think they are more desirable than the later versions.

All it takes is two people to want something really badly and the price shoots through the roof, logical or not.

I'm after an srb, couldn't believe what that one went for.

I'm always looking at prices on the bay, this slightly overpriced egress caught my eye

And it actually sold for that price!?! And without a box... ;)

I got a NIB Egress for much less than that a couple of months ago.

One heck of a deal then mate - you could treble or quadruple your money in todays eBay market, maybe more dependnt upon how cheap you got it.

A used 959, reasonable condition but nothign exceptional made over £200 yesterday too - did come with manual etc but the car itself was no queen. Would have made £140 5 months ago.

Whilst perhaps its no bad thing that prices seem to be rising again, it does make finding a bargain to extend your collection more and more difficult. You don't see a used SRB chassis go for much less than £100 these days, even ones needing £100 of re-re parts to make into a good runner.

Agreed mate, bargain hunters like me are struggling ;)

I was lucky with my Egress, it was a good buy, even once restored.

But I've had some serious bargains on ebay a few years back, Astute for £30 and a boxed Golf group 2 for £50 to name a couple. Unheard of nowadays :D

I'm not so sure... I think prices for the Egress are unnecessarily inflated... just look at how many have been built/restored/assembled on here lately - after about a 6 year drought of none at all! I think there might be a few more out there NIB than people are letting on.

I got a mint NIB Egress for US$900 in October and another for US$860 in November... both included shipping, neither required much negotiation, one came with NIP spares. I think this was "about right" and the ~US$1,500 prices are simple madness.

I don't think a Top Force Evo is worth much more than this NIB either... perhaps US$1,000.

But it's really worth what somebody is willing to pay right? And I'm a Scrooge... ;) Which benefits others I suppose because I don't try and pass on spares at mega-profit-prices.

I think most of it's in perception or how it gets viewed. I watched 3 956s over the last week or so and 2 that were a collection of parts, not even original were pushing 200$. Then another with about the same parts but not presented well sold for 31. I had the 959 on not long ago and it went for twice what was expected. First off, the ones selling high were cleaned up with a good description and pictures. The dusty "this is it" ads usually do poorly. A lot of sellers don't do any homework and don't know what they have, my recent 50 dollar astute is just an example. The other issue is saying no thanks. At 65 I'd have walked away from the astute. On that 956 auction I'd have gone to 100 for the mismatched ones and lost. But would have gone to 50 on the 31 dollar one. Some people go nuts for just that one, like it's the last one on earth. Usually there is another for half the price if your patient and willing to look.

Just out of curiosity, what should a complete vintage sand scorcher/ super champ go for? Even an over and under ballpark guess would be good. Something well maintained with both bodies perhaps?

edit; I had a look at the bid history on the chassis and the ranger auctions and it was the same 2 people driving the price up. The chassis should have topped around 80 pounds and the ranger at 160 or so. Pick your reason, but the prices were artificial. Given the real numbers it looks like the actual prices for this model if sold legitimately aren't that far out of line. For a good example somewhere in the 200 dollar range. I was curious
