I have just fitted a 9T ezrun system to my M04-L beetle and it is extremely fast, but as soon as I go past half throttle it just spins out.

Looking to get some more grip somehow, would these fit on the back? 4797 HPI VINTAGE RACING TYRE 31MM D-COMPOUND

and these on the front?, HPI Vintage 5 Spoke Wheel 26mm 0mm Offset (Matte Chrome/Pair)

I like the style of these wheels but I am open to suggestions as to how to get the best out of this system in this chassis.

Any ideas?

I did the same thing, and the brushless on the light, RWD platform of the M04-L can be a bit of overkill/a real handful to control. I have since removed the brushless and just gone with a Sport Tuned black can motor, powered by some 3200mah lipos, in part because I wanted the brushless on a DF-03ra instead.

The larger (both diameter and width) HPI wheels look great, but, in addition to the RWD and longer wheelbase of the M04-L, they make the car susceptible to traction roll/flipping at speed, and even more so with brushless. When I ran just the BL and the stock wheels/tires, the car was more likely to spin/break free rather than flip. With the Sport Tuned and stock wheels, it's much more manageable overall. In my opinion, the Beetle body, with its detailed chrome trim, etc, is not really a hardcore basher body anyway.

If you decide to keep the brushless, I'd definitely stay with Mini-size wheels, and either roll on the throttle more gently or maybe adjust your ESC for less punch, etc., to help compensate. Tamiya and Kawada make several different styles of Mini-sized wheels that should help give you a more custom look. I am actually now going to pull the chassis spacer and use my M04 with some 225mm Mini bodies to further stabilize the handling.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Lawdog, On a dry surface I get the flipping on full throttle  . In the wet it just spins round in circles. :D I broke the chrome mirrors off ages ago so not really worried about this body. I have turned the punch down to it's lowest setting ;) .

I also have a Blitzer beetle (original) and a Sand Rover 2011 so would the brushless system be better in one of these models? I didn't want to trash the bodies on these two so I used the M04L to test the brushless motor.

I wasn't expecting much from the 9T but it is a vast improvement on what I had in it before which was a good quality 19T brushed motor. :D

The other day in the dry I smacked into a wall and bent the chassis ;) I don't think it cracked, just bent. :( Good fun though, I know others have said it, but it's nice to be able to use the throttle stick rather than have it full all the time. :)

Edit2Add: Thats a nice looking beetle Lawdog, are those the 31mm tyres?, they are 31mm wide? is there any offset on them?

Thanks for the compliment. Yep, those are the 31mm on the rear only, and I think all of those wheels have a 6mm offset.

I don't have a Blitzer or SRB, but I would think the Blitzer's increased width and suspension travel would make it considerably more stable than the M04-L with the brushless. Those 9T ez-runs are a big step up from most brushed systems. I like the simplicity of the M04 chassis, and the scale aspect of the RWD, so I still like to play with it, despite its limitations. I am curious to see how it does in 225mm wheelbase trim, but I really have had more success controlling it with the Mini wheels/tires.

I see from your pics you are still using the stock friction dampers...perhaps an upgrade to the rears, at least, might help keep power to the ground.

I know this isn't the popular opinion, but I honestly don't see the bonus of getting a finger cramp holding the throttle at half for the entire run vs going the same speed with the trigger buried (and with less risk of getting the car caught in a tree due to a spasm).

IMO the Blitzer really suits brushless power . The gearbox is almost bomb proof . The wide stance makes it very stable too . Only really needs some decent dampers and it makes a geart runner .if you want to keep the original body looking good why not fit a lexan look a like ? Try kamtec for one .

Hi Sayer, I don't race, I just mess about in the car park. I have to admit it was a bit boring with the 19T brushed motor and because of this I hardly ever drove it. Now it puts a big smile on my face even though it is almost uncontrolable.

Thanks bromvw, I think I am going to put it in the blitzer next, while I order a new chassis for the M04L and some new tyres  might have to get some spares for the blitzer as well. :D

They are Tamiya oil dampers, not the stock pogo sticks that it comes with. I got this car 2nd hand and it had these dampers when I got it.

Roger that. Just saw the black plastic in the pic and made a poor assumption. I have actually left the friction dampers on the front of mine because the I think the aftermarket ones I have (Yeah Racing) don't fit/function very well in that application.

why dont you go for the HPI cup racer slicks and rims, you can still find the soft compound ones here and there, i scored a set for my M06 opel kadett

To the OP -HPI makes M chassis sized Vintage wheels/ tires- make sure to go off the measurements when choosing them..

the one's you have listed are for a 1/10th scale car (like TT01 size car)

also make sure to get the same size tire for the wheels you get- (26mm wide wheel- get 26mm wide tires)
