sand scorcher HELP ?????

ok i need advice from all you experts im looking into the sand scorcher and i see some on ebay go for cheap and some go for outragious prices ??? did tamiya reissue this kit at some point???

i see some have black front bumpers and some dont ????? HELP??????[?]

The SS has not been reissued and probably will never. You have to be carefull with what you buy. The lower priced ones are probably and wreck and a money pit if you decide to restore one. The higher priced ones are those that are usually in pretty decent shape.

As for the black bumpers, correct me anyone if I am wrong, but those are the original SS bumpers. I am thinking probably the 1980 to 1982 production runs. The later bumpers are shared with the Holiday buggy and Sand Rover.

Both bumpers are origional. The first cars to use the bumper (SS and RR) came with the black bumper, which was later replaced by the grey bumper.

The Holiday Buggy, Sand Rover, Ford Ranger XLT and Super Champ were released after Tamiya started using grey bumpers: these kits never came with the black bumper.

You have to watch out as there are many (beaten) chassis' about with Blitzer Beelte beetle bodies and missing a lot of (expensive) parts. Restoring such car is almost like throwing money in a bottomless pit.

Keep in mind Sand Scorchers aren't really rare. Seeing so many come up for sale should ring a bell! []
