Has Tamiyaclub ever considered creating a forum for people who enjoy building static models? Certainly the site has many radio control enthusiasts, but it seems natural to expect some crossover between RC models and static models. Tamiya makes a broad line of detailed static model kits. This might be a way to give a brand-specific home to both types of hobbyists, which could lead to some crossover and sharing of ideas. I'm just imagining what this site would look like if we cloned it for the static model enthusiasts and then merged the two sites into a single site.

But how far do they go ?. Do you also start include slot cars , airplanes , trains etc .

I also started in static models then slot cars & then to RC .

I build 1:24th scale slot cars , using the static kit's . So i do a mix of the too & it

looks great when it goes around the track .

This question has been asked before. Here.

The difference between slotcars and static models is that Tamiya make static kits. There is a classification for showroom entries on the main site.

I too have used static kits, both Tamiya and other brands, to build slotcars and also convert them to radio control. Micro-T parts are ideal to convert a static kit. The electrics is small enough to hide easily in even a 1:32 scale kit and the speed when running them on the standard 4.8v pack (1 pack in a 1:32 and 2 packs in parallel in a 1:24) is about perfect to make them move without being silly fast and break them.

yeah we got a LOL out of that back then

out of curiousity, anybody come across any active forums for static modellers?

can't find too many tbh, most are blog-type or wordpress brag sites more than a discussion forum

the other issue i see is... are there much new static kits getting made today?

Very quiet from the American makers, most getting closed down, bought up or amalgamated. :D

T is re-re'ing all the old plastic kits from the 70s & 80s... can't see them selling all that well to young kiddies,

pretty much impossible to find a kit of your favourite modern car (or maybe just what your mum/dad is driving).

Last nice all-new kit that comes to mind is R35 GT-R.

With all these re-re statics, the LHSes aren't ordering them in... some places they still have the old dead stock on shelf anyways.
