As per the title, I've been thinking about selling my Lancia 037 re-re but am really wondering would it be worth selling it. The way it sits currently is as an unfinished new build shelf queen (new term right there I think haha). The shell was primed but nothing else was done to it since then (then being about 5 years ago ;) ). Does anyone know if it would actually be worth selling it or should I keep it and try to finish it eventually? I am not sure of the value of these at the moment, but I can only assume that it probably isn't that great considering the TA-03 chassis was fairly widely employed in it's time on countless different models, the only unique part being the shell itself. The thing that brought me onto the idea of selling is having the money available for projects or other similar things so I am not pressed to sell, but I don't like seeing it sat there as it is and I know someone could make an excellent job of finishing it.

Also does anyone have an idea what current market value is like for these?

So I put it to you, the knowledgeable members of TC for your opinions.

Thanks

Matt

if you've started, might as well finish it & enjoy the build.

Pricewise i'd value an unfinished "basketcase" @ less than a mint newbuilt boxart...

Ranked:-

NIB original factory

NIB cobbled together from spareparts back into kitbox

(kit RRP)

Mint Built boxart professionally painted

Mint Built unpainted

<--------- unfinished build

aged Shelfqueen with full period electrics unrun

aged Shelfqueen unrun

Runner

broken runner

pile o' parts

:)

ok there's opportunity to finish it to my own design but there's also big chance of missing bits from kit.

Judging from the responds, none of us are knowledgeable...above the re 037 :D . I would say if you have the space and not in need of the cash, hang on to it and one day you may decide to complete her. Else, put her on the bay and see what happens. The shell is the darling piece with the cockpit, wiper blades, outside mirrors and the extra light housing plus is a hard body. You can sell the entire kit or just the shell with decals.

I'm not too far off your predicament there, I bought an 037 maybe 7 years ago from the LHS for ~360 au dollars. Built the chassis, bought all the paints (still in a bag somewhere) and some Tamiya 5 spoke wide wheels. I'll never paint it for fear of stuffing it up, so now it sit's in the box going nowhere. I don't need to sell it but I'm sure it will never get finished off by me. There's a lot of work in the body and prob that's the most challenging part of the build for most so that makes for some appeal I suppose. I could not guess as to a price but do wish Tamiya would release finished bodies for some of their rally cars.

isn't the shell just spray in gloss white & apply the martini stickers?

That's what it looks like to me though there may be some fiddly grillework detailing I guess.

Thanks for your input guys. I think the amount of work required for the shell depends on the level of finish and detail you want. For me, I want a high quality finish. I have decided to keep it, a combination of the inputs here and after watching a documentary on BBC4 about GroupB Rally cars basically made my mind up for me. My next job is to get the paints for the body and interior, as TamiyaSpray isn't available in Ireland, I'm going to have to buy myself a new airbrush and all the necessary colours (there are quite a few). I just hope I can make a good job of the body. I haven't spray a hardshell before and I'd hate to have it turn out looking ****. nervous stuff haha.

@Kymbo - Prepainted shells by Tamiya would be good, but something tells me that they would cost a fortune. Just have a look at the price of an XB Sand Scorcher :)

MAT if you need any advice on spraying hard shell's just ask . Dont know if you have Halfords in Ireland but their automotive paints work well on hard shells , their better value than tamiya as well .

If you want to use an airbrush, check out AutoAir paints. Great colour range, candies and special effects paints as well, fast drying, waterbased and tough (designed for automotive use). The dealer covering UK and Ireland is based in Antrim so postage shouldn't take too long for you.
