I thought I had it all planned out. I have a small sum of money coming in the fall, and I've earmarked part of it for RC stuff. I was going to get a Bruiser kit with all the running gear for it, and one or two other inexpensive kits to put away for a rainy day.

But then I started thinking, I've always wanted an old gold tub RC10. I never had one, but I had a black-tub Team car that I just loved, and thinking about it, I'd rather have another RC10 than pretty much any new kit. Maybe I should look for one of those instead of trying to choose yet another re-re.

So I started poking around That Big Auction Site. Yep, RC10s are all over the place, for reasonable prices in good condition. And what's this? a NIB Marui Super Wheelie? A new-built Sonic Fighter (don't judge me) with a bunch of spares? And an Optima Mid, in decent runner condition... uh-oh. I could get all those for what it would take to equip a Bruiser.

And now, I sit here with an old Falcon that I bought for cheap, setting it up to be a runner with modern electronics, wondering what other bodies would fit it, now that repros are a no-no. I restored a Blackfoot a few months ago, and have run it a couple times, but mostly I just like looking at it and occasionally mushing the suspension down. But I wouldn't mind having another one to run...

So I have a few months to decide if I'd have more fun with 3 or 4 more old used wrecks, and maybe an obscure new-old kit to build, than with the big blue Toyota. Tough call...

Odd that this got no replies, so...

It's been interesting to see that the re-re-Bruiser is quite expensive. Obviously it's a complex, heavy kit, and those wanting purely the new kit experience will be tempted.

But at about $700 + postage, well...frankly anyone spending that kind of money can also have a lot of fun with true vintage release items - perhaps used Bruisers, and even NIB vintage releases of other interesting cars from Tamiya and others...

So it doesn't surprise me that once you started looking around, you got distracted :)

Well, in the past 2 months I have acquired not only an RC10, but also 2 Cox Bandidos, and an original (non-bowtie but red bumper) Clod Buster. Definitely having more fun with the oldies. Now I'm planning on a quest for an Optima or 2 in the fall instead of a new Bruiser, but I will also get a re-re Wild One. Can't resist that one...

One thing I am NOT enjoying dealing with is vintage electronics. Give me 2.4ghz and ESCs any day.
