I'm currently rebuilding a Avante 2001 and fitting Hi-Cap dampers.

I have the damper units but none of the associated hardware to fit them. Looking at the Egress manual, i have managed to identify the various bushing mounts, bush, spacer etc to fit them with the old Egress part numbers (as listed below). Trouble is, i've not been able to find these part numbers listed !

So..

Does anyone know if there buggies later than the Egress with Hi-Caps fitted that would give me newer/alternative parts for fitting (Avante uses different mounts)

Or

Are there just updated part numbers ?

Help !!

Here is the list of hardware that i think i need (based on Egress)..

BG2 bushing base # 3455197

BF7 spacer 7x3 # 3455229

BT5 6mm ball # 3455224

3mm O ring #2995002 - easily sorted that one !

BF1 rubber bush #6275022

Thanks

It's very difficult to find these parts. I managed to built them myself with a lathe at the end, rubber bushes also.

I might have to go the route of the re-re Avante - although even the bush mount isn't available separately ! Schumacher U3054 part might work, just not sure of the hole size !

here u go mate,

Use the part SE6 from the avante 2001 manual for the lower damper mount and use SE7 from the avante 2001 manual for the upper damper mount, and u will not need for :

BG2 bushing base # 3455197

BF7 spacer 7x3 # 3455229

BT5 6mm ball # 3455224

3mm O ring #2995002 - easily sorted that one !

BF1 rubber bush #6275022

i have these if u r interested. i have it listed in ebay, brand new.

cheers

I should have the Avante 2001 bushing bag arriving today - i needed it for SE1 and SE2 bushings for the rear pivot arms.

SE6 and SE7 are correct for plastic CVA shocks, but are not correct for the Hi-Caps, which should have the pivot ball, rubber bush and bushing mount. They would work, but aren't ideal as they don't allow any rotation of the damper unit.

Have also looked at Dynastorm set up, and those parts are equally scarce !!

DS Parts are very hard to find, and Avante 2001 parts will damage the shock caps (grinding the aluminum away). Here is what you can do...

The metal bushing base (stepped) is the only tricky one to find. I would order the parts form the Avante re-release. They come in the Ball connector bag.

The spacer that goes behind the stepped bushing is a 3mm ID by 3mm thick. Tamiya calls them 5.5mm spacers cause that's the OD. They only come in the Aluminum Spacer set 53539 and it cost $10 for the whole set of 24 (different thicknesses). You could also use any plastic spacers you can find that's roughly 3mm (or cut some).

The Rubber bushing is still sold today under a different part number. It's the o-ring Tamiya uses to mount mirrors on all it's touring car body sets. Part number is 19805385 and they come in packs of 2.

The ball is just any 6mm ball. Tower hobbies sells a bag of 10 for $3.50: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...=LXWZ06&P=7

Also the Vanquish ball connector bag includes 4 for the rear upper links. Also some old Kyosho balls work if you have them laying around (5.7mm I think).

BTW: If you ever need shock bladders, the red ones from the modern CVA's work well inside hi-caps. They are not as soft as the original blue ones, but they do get the job done.

You also might be able to skip the bushing base & 6mm balls and use 6mm ball-collars instead. They kinda have a tube sticking out of either side of the ball that just might accommodate the rubber bushing between the spacer & shock cap. It should work fine. Tamiya ball collars are part # 9804329 for 8.

Many thanks 94eg!

I looked through the spares box last night and found some 5.8pm HPI balls, and some alloy spacers (from various yeah racing damper sets) so was able to resolve the rear set up easily. Need to order some more balls and spacers for the front top mounting. The standard front lower SE6 works ok with just enough clearance of the damper spring cup on the steering knuckle .

Have now ordered some more HPI balls, the Tamiya spacer kit 53539 (bound to come in handy for other projects !!), and two pairs of rubber bushings.

Thanks again for the part numbers 94eg!

got a set myself today, the seller didnt mention they would come with everything included.

so here is a pic for reverence, some of the parts are also available search for df01 top force parts.

Thanks for the photo.

I ended up buying the 5.5mm spacer set, and whilst this doesn't have the correct bushing mount (second from left in your photo) its not too critical to locate the rubber bush as the bolt goes through the lot anyway. Ultimately the rubber bush will wear fractionally quicker (being in contact with the screw thread) but as there is little movement in the area its not too critical.

I usd HPI balls and these work just as well as the Tamiya originals (comparing Egress & original Avante to the Avante 2001)

Still waiting on a rear spring set, new rubber bushings and other bits n bobs to complete the rebuild.

Were these spacers (second from left) available in one of the egress parts bags?

they were indeed, but given i only needed the rubber bush mounts it was a bit pricey to buy all the parts bag.

I found these a couple of weeks ago;

My set of rear springs just arrived, front springs already installed - neither were too difficult to find on eBay (2 weeks).

I bought two sets of the small egress parts bags long ago to complete the ball bearing steering on my King Cab and Hilux MR, those parts were obviously surplus to my requirements,

and seeing how I will probably never get hi-cap sets for either trucks, you are more than welcome to the proper bushings to complete your lovely set of hi-caps

Just PM me your address and I will post them when I can.

:)

Your shocks are installed facing the wrong way. The shock cap goes between rubber bushing and the ball. Not between the ball and the screw head. This defeats the purpose of the rubber bushing pushing the cap against the ball. They way you have it, the rubber bushing is pushing the cap against the screw head, and grinding away the soft aluminum. It also looks like you've got a spring washer in there. You don't need those. Look at the Egress or Top-Force EVO manuals for the right way to assemble...

no spring washer, but thanks for the hint, that whats happens when doing hop-ups after midnight.

Those springs are so shiny i actualy reinstalled the damper wrong way around :)
