I'm currently (re)building a Avante 2001 from parts - bar a few little bits n bobs that will hopefully arrive today i'm almost at a rolling chassis stage so turning my attention to electrics.

Looking around the parts box i could go with the original spec sport tuned motor and a steel 20T pinion, but i'm more inclined to drop a TZ motor in.

Would welcome suggestions on a suitable pinion size for the TZ motor ? - i'm thinking somewhere around 17T/18T, erring towards the lower one as it'll be run mainly on the local grass playing fields.

I'm assuming its 0.6 module pitch ??

Thanks

Thanks - that was the best info i could find in over 30 search results too !

Have ordered a 18T and 20T from Modelsport (although now told they are out of stock of the 20T) - don't want to be stuck at 18mph top speed if i can help it !

Struggled to find anything on the net or in the manual, a quick search on here though revealed this thread clicky goto post 31, tells all you need to know.

lol. I was just about to type that all out again. Thanks!

BTW: The number of teeth you need really depends on the conditions you run the vehicle. Each situation will have a slightly different optimum gear ratio. Having lots of pinion options is always nice. But if you must start somehwere, a shorter gear ratio (less teeth) will be better for all-around performance. It will keep the motor cool, while providing lots of punch out of the corners. This will be best for pretty much everything except top speed runs up and down your street. Short gear ratios tend to build more heat when the motor just sits at full rpm a lot.

You should be very happy with 18T & 20T options to start. If you cant get 20T, maybe try 21T.

Installed 18T on the TZ last night. Got to solder some bullet connectors to the mtroniks ESC before i can test it out (plus get a body !)
