Id like to see a rally class, outside where theres some dust and dirt. A drift class would be nice too.

XC race would be good, again outside.

Have those along with an M-chassis race and i'll be happy :-)

There is plenty of space outside to run cars although the main 'track' will be marked out inside. If we run anything outside we'll still have it as part of the main even listing - we'll just move out side, weather permitting.

Now i may well be throwing a curve ball here! Can we run any car with a mini shell on them in the M class race as I dont have a Tamiya mini but do have an ABC mini?

Also I would like to see a touring car class with the likes of TL01, TT01, TB01/02 etc, as I think quite a few peeps will have one or two kicking around.

The idea of an XC race is inspired BTW! May have to bring my 6WD unimog along for that one, LOL

I think all races should be with standard motor'd cars, keep it all fair and focus more on driving than speed.

I'm pretty certain I saw somewhere that 'races' were more of a fun blast than anything serious. Therefore, I personally don't think it's worth restricting motors. Just my opinion. J

yep sorry if I've not made it clear so far but the term 'races' is being used pretty fast and loose. As with all the other events I've organised its about fun, there is no inspection of setup, no fixed number of laps and only a loose 'categorising' of the models. We just don't have time to be checking peoples motors before races and to be honest many people, myself included, have no idea what motors they have in their models nor the time to swap them out if they didn't meet a standard.

All this means is that 'races' tend to naturally split into sub races, the faster cars go on ahead and race against each other and the slower ones wether because of skill or motor clump together and have their own 'private' races.

Its always worked ok in the past and eveyone has a laugh. The main rule is DO NOT DRIVE IN A DANGEROUS MANNER THAT COULD CAUSE DELIBERATE DAMAGE TO OTHERS CARS. Wheel to wheel racing is fine, bumping because its tight is fine just don't go taking people out.

On that note - should be run original and ReRe's in the same races - are people even interested in running their vintage models if they rere's?

At least one of my nieces is wanting to enter a couple of the sessions with her DF02 but is mindful of getting in the way of others/ causing an inccident. (I once lent her my DF02 and it needed a new tub after 20 minutes of her driving )

Are there others bringing youngsters to drive as well, maybe have a session just for the next generation?

I'm bringing my son who is 8 and my daughter who is 13 but i wont be entering them into any heats with srb's and the alike in, just rally cars ect.

They are far better marshalls than they are drivers anyway ;).

Children have always been welcome at these events - I always used them as 'father & daughter' bonding time, and Molly came along since she was 10. (She's 18 now and can't think of anything worse than coming to the event - so I can't guarantee that it works long term)

All we ask if that you look after them and you are responsible for them, there will be a lot of people there with all sorts of equipment out and the amount of 'children interaction' some have them have had varies. At home, you may have no problem you kids picking stuff and working off but at the event with other people things its obviously different.

Likewise, for safety above all else, we don't want kids walking on the track unless they have been asked too. Being a marshall and flipping peoples cars back over onto their wheels is a great help and racing depends upon it BUT come and see me first for a quick safety talk and a badge - don't ever just run on no matter how helpful you are trying to be.

Hope that doesn't make me sound like the Grinch, its all just about common sense and safety

Cheers

Chris

My ticket is booked and T-shirt ordered, I'm hoping to drag a couple of guys from my local club too who will buy tickets on the day, they're all good guys and into the club spirit so they won't water down the vibe at all.

I genuinely wish I could make it both days, but there's family stuff going on that I can't get out of on Sunday.

Don't spose there's any tables still left for Saturday..?

EVENT SUGGESTIONS LAST CALL

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/book_events.asp

I've jugged this around now, introduced Drifting, Big Rigs and Touring Cars (XC's and Rally were already there)

Any other suggestions? I intend to make this form live either late tonight or first thing tomorrow morning (as I know you are all early rises)

There are open track sessions where you can run whatever you like. I'm thinking 'vintage' and Re/Re's go in the same heats as we'd sooner see full races then lots of half emtpy ones.

Towards the end of this week I'll review the advance bookings and if any of the races have 2 or less cars in them, I may replace them with duplicates of the more popular races. Any changes will be posted here and in the newsletter

Cheers

Chris

Dug out these pics of the very first Tamiyaclub meet from 10 years ago! You have to remember these were the days when people never took their vintage models off the shelf let alone ran them through muddy puddles. Glad to say many of these people will be coming to this years event too
