In my ongoing quest to find a vehicle that can handle my extremely rough and bumpy back yard, I've made an unusual discovery...

Hornet rear tires on Wild Ceptor deep-offset rear wheels (stretch 'em, they'll go on there), and old HPI 2.2 inch Super Star front buggy wheels with Losi silver-dot wide buggy tires (bought from a clearance bin for $1). It works like a charm! So much traction that it does wheelies on takeoff, and the larger-diameter front wheels raise the front ground clearance enough to keep the bumper from digging in. And the soft rubber of the front tires takes care of a serious understeer problem I was having with the stock fronts. Shocks are still set up all wrong, so it's bouncy, but I'm working on that.

Anyone else ever found a bizarre setup that doesn't look like it should work, but surprises you?

how's that wierd? running 2.2" fronts have improved every 1.5" buggy - Frog, Hornet etc

Usually just run full Fox/WildOne wheel set all corners to keep things level.

SuperChamp pinspikes aren't that grippy unless you're solely running on mowed grass though,

any soft modern rear rubber would usually do better - simply guaged by anti-donut ability on a Hornet.

Real weird is running narrower tyres eg 22mm to get MORE grip,

well until they overheat anyways then yeah wider rubber keeps cool longer.

Yeah those crazy narrow Schumacher mini pins on touring cars for low grip tracks

I found that sort of setup worked a long time ago when running my Optima Mid Custom Special, for a laugh I tried the kit front tires all round, after 1 lap it was obvious this worked great as I just did the fastest lap of the day first time around. This was in a big games hall.

if its a hall with wooden floors... try pingpong bat rubber glued to foam tyres.

In the 70s ppl used to stipple silicone sealant on their foams.
