This is going to be a really slow build as I don't have any paint yet and might have to wait a little while until I order some. ( when I persuade the Mrs, lol)

I know this model has taken some flack on the site but when I saw it in Fusion hobbies for £119 UK pounds, I couldn't resist. I have always liked Vw's and this is officially licensed by Volkswagen.

No blisters here. :( At this point, I asked the Mrs if she wanted to sniff the tyres, she did so after that I asked her if she wanted to sniff my willy. :D she didn't do that. :(

Nice details on this shell. I have marked out the cut lines very roughly but it makes it easier to see.

That's it for now, I might get some building done tonight but I am waiting for the rest of the bearings that have been ordered, might be here tomorrow.

There's no way I will produce anything like the quality of your work Skottoman, but if you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Here's some pics of it sitting on a M04L, only this M04L has an extra spacer in it to make it a bit longer so that the Maisto body fits better. So it's a M04XL.

A bit narrow, but you might get away with it for a custom bus build.

It might fit with all the spacers removed, I will try later and post another pic.

Details on this shell are good, I was dreading painting this but it might not be as bad as I thought.

I'm sure I'll have some ideas for you... depends on how you go about painting it.

You could add Roll bars? Roof rack? Roof Lights? Custom bumpers? 2 Willys? Exterior radiator with hoses? Mesh grills? Spare tire? Flags!

Possibilities are endless. :)

Cheers,

Skottoman

First job is to split the gearbox and take out all the plastic and brass bushings.

DSCF5289.jpg

Gears have been well greased up in the Tamiya factory,

DSCF5291.jpg

Bearings all fitted, used the "Bonus Parts" which was only enough to do the gearbox, I have another eight to do the rest.

Gearbox back together, and bushings removed. I haven't managed to get a steel pinion gear yet but will get one soon.

Step 3,

Complete,

Had a bit of a set-back, had an old servo laying about for years, thought it worked but didn't check it. It doesn't work so I have borrowed one from the M04 for just now.

Wow that shell is small need a new type of chassis for it micro-M lol, then i guess they resized it to fit small style on top of the ww chassis.

Hmm, might be able to carve up an M03 to get the required wheelbase and create a fun cartoony looking hot rod with the wheels sticking out of the wells.

Posted

it would have to be rear wheel drive Sayer so a chopped up M04 or the other one M02?

Probably, though I'd be worried about the rear constantly coming around with RWD and such a short wheelbase.

Posted

you could turn an m03 to rear drive and fit it, but might be better off with a custom pan car chassis with it so small. Plus you can really narrow a pan chassis up including cutting the wheels narrower

Thanks Skottoman, I am all finished with the chassis now, just got to finish uploading pictures and writing this thread. I wasn't looking forward to the body at all but going to have a go, cheers for the ideas earlier skottoman, good thing with this is there are loads of custom Willy's so loads to think about on the chassis as well. I might get some of the Ansmann crawler wheels and tyres for it eventually. ( if the mrs lets me)
