I've tried fifty times but the shocks have no "rebound/recoil". ie: when I push the shaft in, it doesn't pop back out, stays fully compressed. I've tried building the darn things fifty times !

TIPS ??

They are going on the truck "with no rebound". . . . . . . . . . . . . .basically, the oil was added for no reason then  .

I think you might be confusing the shaft displacement of the oil with "rebound". In short, the rebound action you see is just a side effect of a damper not having adequate volume compensation, and not rebound by design. The oil is there only to slow down the spring action, better known as dampening. In the case of the Bruiser dampers, the little spring-loaded compensation chamber does its job pretty well, so you won't see the shaft getting kicked back out when compressed. All of the spring action is handled by the leaf springs, and the dampening is left to the dampers.

Conversely, setups that feature small "rebound" springs in the dampers are usually designed this way to offer better tuning of spring rates, which is difficult with scale leaf springs since they really don't behave like their full-scale counterparts. Common helical springs on the otherhand are the easiest for fine tuning.

Tamiya also used little springs in the Highlift friction dampers, but it appears to me that they just served as preload to prevent the shafts from binding as they wear. IMO those trucks were way over-sprung to begin with

in the re-release and even in the original bruiser/mounty the piston doesn't move all the way back out after compression. Like mentioned above the spring does that job while the damper just dampens or slows the compression and rebound nothing else

I was doing mine other night and thought same at first refilled one a few times, then realised the little brass piston allows the oil move it up like a reservoir sort thing. Now I completed all four and attached 2 seems to work very well! Hopefully no leaks!

I did loose one of the tiny springs that go under caps thankfully a spare is provided!
