I don't know if this has been posted or not. At least I didn't see anything while using the search engine. Anyway, an Article on the Tamiyaclub homepage got me to thinking about this. So here's sort of an informal poll about what you think will be collectable and valuable.

Looking through some of the websites such as http://www.toyexchange.addr.com/tamcollect01.htmland http://www.toyexchange.addr.com/tamcars01.html there's much written. I'd like to hear some your opinions on the matter.[:)]

As for future collectables I would say any car that had detail would be a candidate.

On road

Taisan starcard porsche

Alpine a110

The m chassis old beetle

The Mini cooper Montecarlo

Off road

XC based vehicles

Juggernaut 1 & 2

Midnight pumpkin after it has been discontinued

I'm sure there are some I missed

My opinion is anything with a hard plastic body is or will be collectable (except striker/sonic fighter).

I think the Mini series of realistic street cars, VW Beetle, Eunos, Mini coopers etc, especially those with chrome tidbits will also be sought after.

Maybe the high end race cars chassis, especially those successful in racing like the 414.

All of the Semi Trucks and the Dump truck.

Actually this site has mentionted indirectly many times, search for "holy grail" in the forum... I think this site even influenced the market prices since a long time, I was also influenced in the past (I was young and unexperienced - yeah sure, we believe you Theo[;)][:P][:D]) and bought a Taisan I am ashamed to say [:I]

To say the truth dont like this collectibility "guidelines", IMHO buy what you like... [:)][8D]

After talking to this japan based collector, who claimed to have more than 300 kits, also including mini4wd, I got a few tips. This guy knows a lot about old, as well as todays, Tamiya kits from what I have experieced and has been very helpful at times. Anyway here is a quote from a mail I got from him not long ago:

..and Monster Beetle, Nissan King Cab and Juggernaut 2 became expensive in this one year. If you do not have these kits, I recommend to get these a little early...id="red">

does this thread mean we are in it for the money?

If that is the case, then unless you are talking abou tdealing in large numbers then you are wasting your time.

All older toys, especially those that were the most popular of their time, become collectable.

So, collect what you like, and you won't be dissapointed!

No, I think that wise old man is just meaning

if you going to have to buy that car to 'complete' your

collection you might as well buy it now/earlier than later.

I reckon most of the modern cars do not offer enough individuality for collectors to chase.

On the other hand some of the shells could be something to think about. If you're in it to make some money a bodyset and some matching wheels could make a nice investment. The hard part would be to pick the right one.

Personally, I'll leave it to others so I can enjoy what I buy here and now.

No harm meant. I just curious that's all. I just read one of the vintage review articles that made the proclaimation about Tamiya being collectable in the future. I was trying to get folks to kinda do the same thing or at least make a prediction. Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to offend or miscontrue that I was only in it for the money.[:I][B)]

hey, if any of us were in this hobby for the money, that would be perfectly ok, each to their own and all that.

I don't mind what is collectable or not. I collect what I like. And if I would be the only one loving Bruisers and Mountaineers (what I am unfortunately not), I would go on with them. But like everything else, out of all cars I often chose the precious ones. What a dilemma for my wallet!

I've lived with this whole 'collectable' and 'Rare much sought after' thing for many years in the vitantage analogue synthesiser market. It would appear that the junk you just can't give away now and ends up being binned trashed for spares or thrown off a cliff for a laugh, will one day become rare and hence expensive. Acid house and rave was built on a sound from a tb 303 budget synth that you could not give away in the Mid eighties, I have binned one in my time, they have passed hands for upto £1000 in recent years. So if your in it for the money buy what you hate, buy what nobody else wants now and buy my shoe box of old junk off me..................YOU SUCKER[:P] its cool to know pretty much all people here are'nt in it for the cash[8D] if you are in it just for cash join cash cow club.
