OK, this might be a bad idea, but I have a MB shell to repair/repaint etc so I'm toying with the idea of fitting a roof rack (with/without lights), and then add a few scale accessories.

Can anyone advise which racks fit the scorcher/beetle shell as there are various types from various suppliers. Pro-Line seem to be as good as any but don't want to buy only to find its not suitable !!

I've already bought a 5 light led bar, which will be cut down to 3 and the other two lights used in the headlights, so not too bothered about lights int he roof rack.

I dunno about roof racks, mate, but if I was you I'd try that with some lexan aftermarket body instead. You don't want to ruin an irreplaceable 1986 body when rolling it over in the test run. That would be sad.

Well the body is already in need of reapir - front nose cone is an easy fix, the front quarter of the wheelarches less so !

I modified the arches on my scorcher too, cutting back and smoothing to a more Baja style. This time round I'll need to add styrene to the arches whatever shale they take so tempted to go original this time. I have my blitzer shell for reference which is handy :)

Having measured the beetle roof size tonight I'm glad I waited before buying a rack, it'll take a 110x140mm rack with a bit of room to spare.

I got one of the RC Lighthouse roof racks to mount on my "Snowhopper". Not sure exactly who produces them as they are sold buy a few different companies/sellers, but thats where mine came from.

It's mounted to a Kamtec lexan body but has the same basic shape as the og Scorcher bodies. The roof rack was a bit long, and the rear legs had to be extended quite a bit. I think it looks ok on the snow car, but will definitely use a shorter rack on any future cars I build. Just keep that in mind if you're shopping around for a rack!

Thats useful info Flat_Out. Your rack looks the same as the 3Racing one sold by Stella Models which they state is 140 x 110mm. There is another made by Qmax thats described as 130 x 98mm which might be better because of the roof curvature.

Any chance you could measure your rack to confirm whether its the 3Racing version please ?

Yeah, that's got to be the same rack. Those are the same dimensions as the base of mine. The light mount on the front does extend beyond that too.
