Great Tommo.....any photos? :)

Sorry mate, no photo's just yet. Once I've built and fitted them I will for sure. A couple of weeks away probably as I have two projects going and not much time to build lately.

Mine arrived at 08:06 this morning - took 10 minutes to get through Stella's packaging !

So what do you want to know that we haven't fathomed out already ?

First observations are that the cylinders are darker in appearance than my Egress dampers. The tiny air bleed in the cap is still there.

Well that's great to know. Thank you. To me the vented caps were the defining feature of the Hi-Caps.

As for the color, I'm not surprised. The color & finish was obviously different on the Avante re-re cylinders as well. These look more polished (reflective) than original hi-caps.

Ok here's a few more pics of the rear set in component form..

Regarding the top caps - they do not have a visible hole - there is a slight dimple on the underside, ca 1.5mm diameter, but this doesn't appear to end in any vent hole. The gol springs look to be a slightly different colour to the originals i have on the egress and they appear more power painted than i remember the originals (i could be wrong as my Egress is in the attic currently)

Egress stock springs are certainly not "all gold coloured" as the name suggests so your current observation is probably correct. The originals were like a moldy gold.

I saw Stella had stock yesterday. Done nothing with mine bar photograph them so far

Tamiya-Era - unless you have a hopeless mail system I'd expect you to see your delivery mid next week

Have just compared the re-re gold springs with the originals. The fronts are indeed the same in terms of length, number of coils and wire gauge. The re-re rears on the other hand are about 3mm shorter and have a total of 10 coils instead of 12. The really good news is that gold colour is exactly the same as a new pair of originals I have :)

I think, there will be no Egress or Vanquish,,otherwise, they will write in the pack : suitable with Vanquish/ Egress,, and i dont think that tamiya will re-write on their all packs again. looooool

Great, so the Vintage will stay Vintage ;)

Haider, may as well go ahead and post up the instructions too. Pretty much the only thing we have yet to see. Oh and also what does the damper oil label say? Isn't clear 900cst? :o Seems awful thick for a quality damper.

Well, the dampers still in pack,,mmmm. truth is, i didn't felt awesome about them and might sell them. It will be perfect for Avante1988 and the re-re, NOT for Vanquish as the contents sets are different .but if not, i will post the manual :)...

as for damper oil, it says: NET.9cc

Cheers

Damper oil bottle has no marking re viscosity but the paperwork says it 900 - its certainly viscous compared to Fastrax 35, 45 and even 55wt oils that i had to hand on the workbench. I'd even go as far as to say its probably close to 85/90 wt !

Here are the instructions (instructions weren't very flat sorry but you get the idea ;) )

Very interesting the 2nd portion of step 2 where it shows installing the bladder with the piston up high in the cylinder. This is contrary to the original hi-cap instructions (I think) where it's installed & capped with the piston at the bottom of the cylinder. With this new setup, the bladder will create negative pressure when the rod is at full extension. Also there will only be minimal, if any, positive pressure (pack) at full compression. This may help prevent leaks or blow-outs from the tiny vent hole in the upper caps (which I've experienced before). I wish I could talk to the guy who came up with this setup.

Would you mind posting the instructions for the fronts as well?

Here's the front instructions - it becaomes clear why the new front tower uses countersunk screws (to allow room for the front upper arm)..

Still uses 900 damper oil and slight aeration fill, as per the rears, as 94eg! pointed out..

Thats great. Since part A shares between re-re and vintage, then we can use the front shock easily on Vanquish/Egress then..coooool

Only it will have a new look..lool

So hiw about the size of spacer provided here?? Looks so small compared to vintage!

Will this have sone effects on the perfomabce if we install this on vintage?

Posted

I can understand the spacer on the front as the new tower mounts to the rear of the gearbox attachment pioints, whereas the normal dampers fit direct to the front of the mounting point. It will improve the clearance aganist the tower itself and bring the top of the shock slightly more in line, albeit still not as far forward as the centre line of the Avante shocks - maybe a bigger spacer is needed ?

At the rear i think the spacer is just to clear the shock tower as the hi-caps seem marginally bigger in overall diameter than the standard shocks
