I have made a purchase on ebay using paypal and not received my items.

I have closed the bank account that I used to pay.

The seller has refunded the money to paypal who have refunded the card which is impossible as the account is closed.

I have called the bank and they say the money would not have come to them as the account is shut.

I have called paypal, they say a different thing every time.

I have called ebay and they hung up on me!!!.

I didn't swear, I just keep getting told to call paypal or call the bank but they are all blaming each other.

The value of the items amount to around £60 and I just want my money back.Edit to add, Just been on the paypal help forum and it looks like this happens all the time and I just have to wait.

If I understand correctly, the money is on your PayPal account but you can't transfer it to your bank...

Thinking either of two things :

- Wire the money to a friend's PayPal account and ask him to take it off and send it to you

- Reconnect a bank account to your PayPal

Or did you close your PayPal also?

Hi Edou, thanks for taking the time to reply, No the money is nowhere to be seen, I have closed my bank account, my paypal account is open.

It looks like the seller has refunded the money and paypal have refunded the credit card which no longer exists.

The bank say the money would be returned to paypal automatically and instantly as the credit card account is closed.

It seems lots of people have this problem, I don't know how paypal have got away with it for so long.

Edit to add, I have xxxx the sellers name and some identification numbers.

Okay, I reckon PayPal works a bit different in your country?

In the Netherlands you can link it to a regular bank account so a credit card is no longer needed.

A refund will end up as a positive balance on the PayPal account itself.

I'd say eBay is not a party in this.

PayPal did what they would usually do.

The problem (in my opinion) is with the bank, they should send the money right back in case of a closed account.

Takes about a second in this digital era.

I have (consumer protective) legal insurance for this kind of stuff. ;)

It wasn't a credit card, it was a debit card which is just a bank/cash card, don't know why it appears as a credit card.

Normally it goes straight bank into my bank account but as this is now closed, it should have went back to paypal or back to the seller?

I know it's nothing to do with ebay but they are the ones who encourage you to use paypal so I think they should help sort the problem.

To add - I am assuming the bank received the money anyway.

If not, their system's flawed. In a way a bank definitely shouldn't be.

I don't think the seller got it back again.

Best thing may be to keep writing to PayPal to credit it to your balance there...

It must be in the bank - PayPal twilight zone somewhere.

But ultimately, PayPal's responsible for it.

Paypal and eBay are the same company, just different departments. One of the reasons eBay promotes Paypal so heavily.

A debit card works the same as a credit card, and appears the same in the 'system'. The difference is you must have funds in your account with the debit card.

Where your money is who knows. In cyber space with no where to go. Have you set a new account in your Paypal?

Thanks for the reply Mark, I think it is just a waiting game now, it could be anywhere between 7 and 30 days.

Yes I have a new bank account but it's not verified, when I go to verify it, it takes me to a direct debit page, but I am sure my old account wasn't verified.

How long do I have to leave the seller feedback?, I want to leave one of the sellers a negative as the item is not received, they have no proof that they sent it and I had to hassle them for the refund.. It is a shop not a private seller, they currently have 98.2% feedback.

The paypal forum is full of people angrily waiting for refunds so I guess it is a common problem.

I'm pretty sure it's 60 days from time of purchase (used to be 90 days before the new rules). The Paypal refund is 45 days.

I am still waiting for my refund, paypal are really annoying me now, got a headache coming on, and after having meningitis that is not a nice experience.

Sorry you're having such a lousy time with PayPal... With the amount of money they rake in, it's unbelievable that they aren't forced to act in higher standard.

Have you called your bank again? If the charge was applied to your account prior to closing, your bank will have a record of this. I know that U.S. banks can reverse charges if you make a complaint with them. I've had to do this several times in the past, and all of my PP transactions are funded with a debit card. (Never had a credit card/never will!)

Thanks for the reply OCD, actually they have paid it into a different account, same bank but a different account.

Paypal told me they paid it into my current account which was closed ages ago, the bank said they had not received anything but after waiting 30 days and checking my bank, turns out they have paid it into a savings account I have with the same bank.

Panic over, still annoyed with paypal though, thanks for all the advice everyone.
