Hi guys

what size pitch are the gears used in the 2009 buggy champ?

Gonna order a steel replacement before i start my build.(any recommendations?)

also just had a look at the instructions for the gear ratio,s and all it says is high/low ratio setting.

does anybody know what they are as im thinking of buying a new motor.might buy another superstock BZ ratio 9:1-11:1

or just a sports tuned and keep the standard TEU 104 ESC.(any motor recommendations?)

cheers Karl

These are 0.6 module, either 15 tooth or 20 tooth. RRP1115 and RRP1120 (Robinson Racing - US) or ARW0600-15 and ARW0600-20 (RW Racing - UK).

Good day TA-Mark

nice one for the reply mate. :)

I'll grab the final drive ratios for the two gearing options from the RC workshop tomorrow. Too cold outside in the wee hours of the morning here.

EDIT: Found them on the Tamiya website. 15/70 is 9.3:1 and 20/65 is 6.5:1.

I'm very sure the kit supplied 15 tooth is steel. The 20T is aluminium butter. I didn't use them in my SRB :P It's 19T/82T 0.5mod gearing.

Alright mate

nice one Mr R/C wikipedia. :) .

is there a big difference in top speed/acceleration between high/low ratio when using the standard motor?

especially with a five tooth pinion difference.

That I don't know. I ran mine once with a silvercan on 15T/70T, then tore it to bits, made a gear diff, modified a DF03 slipper clutch to fit and then bolted in a MambaMax 4600Kv brushless.

Since the five teeth difference applies to both the pinion and the spur, I am told it actually does make a noticeable difference.

Running my Buggy Champ with the TEU-101BK and a silver can with a NiMH battery, I noticed a lot more wheelspin with the 15T/70T combination than the 20T/65T setting, though top speed was not as easily noticeable. Eventually I did find that the lower ratio was faster overall, if only by a few km/h,

A great reason if I ever saw one!

Dont the kit come with a steel 15 tooth pinion already?

My sand scorcher did.

Alright Shen

I,ve not opened the parts blisters yet.i,ll check it out.

I think the 15T pinion is steel and the 20T pinion is aluminum; both are in the kit. My 20T pinion definitely wore faster than the 15T...

Alright mate

thanks for the input.

was that a big difference in speed/acceleration TA-Mark?ha ha :D :D

Just a thought you can go with the 15 tooth and try one of the $11.00 cheap duratrax photon speed 2 twenty turn motors in it if you think the speed is to slow stock...and with a faster motor like the 20 turn you would want to go with the smaller pinion gear anyhow.

yeah if i decide to upgrade the ESC i might go down the duratrax 20 turn route.(i know you highly rate them) :)

not sure which way im gonna go yet mate as i,ve just read a thread though which mentions the buggy champ is designed only for the silvercan unless you modify the way the motor is held in.

I might be wrong but I think the re-release had the mod all ready done so that you can swap motors, there was two pins in the gearbox that needed removing? or I could be making it up? not sure?

Hi Karl the duratrax should drop right in it's just like the tamiya stock can... I have alot of tamiyas runing the 20 turn duratrax motor all using the stock tamiya kit esc's i had no problems at all with them.
