Hello all, I am new to this so bear with me. A friend of mine recently gave me this car (Tamiya Ferrari F40 QD item# 46015) and I am currently charging some new batteries for it. My questions are these-first, should I do anything before running the car? It has been sitting for at least a year, possibly longer. Second, although this car is just going to be for giggles around my driveway, is there anything I can do to it (I enjoy tooling around)? It would seem through my limited searching that the "real" Tamiya F40 is a much better platform, and I think if I enjoy fooling with this one I will look for one of them, or maybe get myself an Enzo Ferrari to build. However, it does say in the manual that there are "1150 size" bearings that can be purchased for the car, anyone know of anything else? Lastly, any advice or info anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello PAuly,

Welcome to the hobby. The Ferrari F40 QD is more of an entry level R/C kit. You could upgrade it with 1150 type ball bearings, and this will increase the speed of your car a bit (for these bearings, take a look at ebay or in your local shop, they should be approximately 2.5 USD for one).

If you run on a small surface, this car will be fun. If however you are planning to run on the street, I would recommend a car like the Ferrari Modena or Enzo. You can get these cars in different chassis types, TL01, TA04 and TT01. TT01 Enzo is the easiest car, while the TA04 will be more interesting if you are planning to upgrade it later. Hope this helps,

David

David, thank you for the response. After taking the kit apart, it became very apparent that it was geared towards ease of use and not performance. However, it has proven to be a lot of fun to do doughnuts with it in my kitchen, and I cant wait for some nice weather to take it outside and screw around. I figure as a freebie its a good way to see how interested I am in the rc hobby, and if I find I enjoy it I am thinking I will invest in an Enzo. Again, thank you.

Paul
