Good morning all! I pruchased a scrathc and dent 801xt last fall and I have been loving it every since. Im running an OS .28 and it a beast. Ive installed the shorter arms that were the one update that Tamiya released for the truck. Its a fun truggy and Ive been able to keep up with the latest and greatest. However Im a little disapointed that Tamiya hasnt continued to develop it.

Anyway, are any of you still driving this beast, or has it been sent to the shelves or ebay already?

i'm currently rebuilding an NDF-01T Nitro Thunder, it's my only Nitro model and i haven't used it yet. I'm only interested in 1/10th scale though so the 801XT crossed my mind when i was looking but it was quickly eliminated

how do you find it drives?

I love how it drives, it has loads of suspension travel, jumps well, it's attitude is easily adjusted in the air (via the throttle, brakes, and steering wheel), has loads of adjustment, and turns on a dime. I’ve always been a Tamiya guy, Ill never be a world class driver, for my skill level the 801xt is still too much for me, but its fun trying to drive it to its potential!

They're still available as scratch 'n' dent at tamiyausa.com, both the 801x and the 801xt. Is there a brushless conversion kit available for either of these? I was looking at all the OFNA e-buggies and keep thinking it would be really nice to run a brushless system in the 801x instead...

Did a little digging as you suggested, and found a very nice conversion using a Mugen center diff and diff mount, along with Caster battery cups. It looks nicely balanced; throw in a Mamba Monster 2200kV system, and it'll be ready for the track...

I went for the short arms, only installed them on the front. Aided in increasing its steering. Still a competitive truck, you won't regret your purchase!

Update- Ive been running the truck for a year, Im not the best driver and it has held up really well. No broken parts, only one bent universal. Upon disassembly I discovered differentials that were like new with 100 percent of their fluid and still smooth. Im upgrading to 801x front steering knuckles and hubs (increases steering), light weight chassis, and brushless power. Im no expert with tuning nitros and a year worth of weekends hasnt improved my ability. I plan on purchasing a 801x at some point, the lrp .28 will go there. New motivation will be via a castle creations mamba 2200kv. Ill start an upgrade thread once i begin the rebuild.
