So I was posting about Clod sized whells for my BFX in bromvw's 4x4x4 Blackfoot thread.. but I think I have a good plan worked out just need to execute it.

My Blackfoot is set up as follows:

- Traxxas TQi 2 ch radio

- Traxxas XL5 ESC

- Front transmission added

- Dual Black Can RS540 Sport tuned Motors

- Dualhunter rims (White) with Original Blackfoot/Bruiser Tires

- Clodbuster Body

- Full Ball Bearings

- 65mm Oil Dampers

I want some bigger tires on it. the Blackfoot tires are about 2.25in wide (I think) and 4.75in tall. My thought is to do Wheely King Mud thrasher tires (5.3in x 2.75in) with HPI Super Star MT wheels

Looking at different ideas on what to do to this truck..

While I was doing some web searching and found this:

on Scale 4x4 http://www.scale4x4r...read.php?t=6565

He used TL-01 Suspension Arms (shorter) which give it more of a scaler look, which I kind of like.. Especially with using the Clod Body. brings the wheels in quite nicely

I am really leaning this way then building another WR01 based car for my daughter to use as my son has a dual hunter.

Be careful with the HPI wheels - i have a set of their 2.2" truck wheels on my Twin Detonator and the tyres rubbed the steering knuckle arm because they were different offset to the stock Tamiya items (the inner face of the tyre in effect too far in to the centreline of the model). They also rub slightly on the body. I got some wider hex adaptors (5mm deep) which helped but still occassional rubbing when the tyre compresses. I've now got some Thunder Tiger SSK rims to fit which will solve my issues as the offest is same/similar to Tamiya items.

The truck in the images above is running Tamiya wheels but Traxxas Emaxx type shocks which are good shocks - however that truck isn't showing much in the way of articulation (hardly a strong suit of the Blackfoot anyway)- i'd hazard a guess the shocks are set pretty firm to prevent tyre rub against the body, at the expense of decent bump absorption.

To retain a narrow , more scale, look you either have to jack the body up too high to give good bump absorption but no body rub, or stiffen the suspension up a lot to be able to mount the body lower. I ran 1/8th type shocks and an aftermarket body on my King Blackfoot and avoided tyre rub, but it was hardly a looker ! http://www.tamiyaclu...108612&id=34746

Those HPI wheels were on my BFx when I got it.. I would have to bolt them up to see what rubbed.. But my first post differs from the second I guess, first one I just wanted new wheels and bigger tires as I felt the Blackfoot/Bruiser tires on there just don't do it justice as it sits.

The Ford bodied Dagger I like as the wheels are brought in and it looks a bit like a scaler.. well at least the wheel location or more of what I would like.

According to the original post I found the articulation is about 3". for what I do with the truck, that should be fine, I mean honestly it is just driving it on our street or our yard, so I am not so sure I want a fast truck, I remember when I was a kid having a clodbuster and driving it in the lawn was the most fun..

if I did the narrow track, I would swap my short shocks for the longer ones, and use Stock type wheels, in chrome or the grey if I can find them.

I could then buy the rest of the parts and build a 2wd version for speed and for my Daughter to use as well

So I have not done much to this truck lately. but keep thinking I need to change it a bit. I want to bring the wheels in closer to the body. so this brings the question, the WR01 chassis uses TL01B arms for suspension, how much shorter are the TL01 arms or the TL01LA Arms

I am not sure I want to use the TL01 arms as it might bring the wheels in closer then I want.. so I am looking for Ideas to bring the wheels in about 1/2-3/4 inch

this I will do the tl01 short arms (WW2) get smaller wheels and make it look more like a scaler..

Wish I had the extra $$ for the F350 High Lift, but not this year :(

Jeff take a look at the rc4wd site . They do a wide range of scale wheels and tires that would suit this well . Something like their 1.9 landrover wheels might work really well and their far from being expensive . Fit a sclae tire - perhaps somthing like their baja Micky thomsons and it would look spot on IMO

Thanks bromvw

I am leaning towards the scaler look so those wheels/tires might work, although the WW2 wheels looked pretty good with the body on the High lift chassis

You need to be careful of clearance on the steering arm - I had HPI wheels on a twin detonator and the tyre sidewall rubbed , before cornering or any other deflection of the sidewall. the HPI wheel offset was obviously different to Tamiyas original, i then swapped to a set of Thunder Tiger SSK wheels and they work well, athough i don't think they'd help you here.

Yeah they are close.. I was thinking worst case there is another set of Steering Arms I found with an angle on the arm. When the shorter Arms are in place I will run the deeper 12mm hex drive which will give a touch more space int he area of concern. I just need to order the parts and start swapping to the narrower track.. then decide on wheels/ shocks

Updated Stance using TL01 parts:

I am still waiting for the Steering Tie rods.. I ordered the wrong ones and need to order the correct ones. I did use the 12mm Hexs from 2 sets of TL01 Toe in kits to push the wheels out a bit and along with that used the longer wheel axles:

Once I get the Steering worked I can determine body height and might have to trim the rear of the front wheel wells for clearance

I am starting to think I need 1.9s on this with a smaller dia tire
